Your having problems starting at 25 mph means your at 4300 rpm when making that shift. That's pretty low in the rpm range to have it grinding already.

Right now, I'm only getting a "crunch" during aggressive 6000 rpm shifts and a notchy stiffiness at aggressive 5000 rpm shifts.

Other than that, my 2nd gear is ok.

Mine is doing it starting at 4k+ rpm also but only at half throttle or more. Orig only did it around 5500. It also seems more likely to do it when i first start driving. It now does it periodically on downshifts also. I have 4,900 mi.

How many miles were you at when they finally accepted it for repairs? I'll start adding the mileage to the post.

I created a list of all members who post that they have had a grind or bind. My local dealers are blowing me off saying that an occasional grind is fine and stiff shifting is to be expected. I want to see just how large the issue really is.

Please cast your vote on the thread below and let us know just how your AY6 V6 M6 shifts into 2nd.

Thanks!

I think there are 6 of us in this thread and one with a stiffy. There is another thread somewhere on here with at least 2 or 3 more I think... need to hunt it down. Might be interesting to compare build numbers too??
I have no problem being on the list at all!

I just posted in your thread as well, something with the clutch really gave up in the last few days.

My build # is 59536, for whatever it's worth. built in October.

I think i'm getting to the bottom of the issue. The GM natl's gave alot in insite to the issue. It turns out that GM is in the final stages of releasing a bulletin in regards to the transmission. When i was at the show i talked directly with some key GM representatives that wish to remain annonomous. They couldn't go into details of what there resolve is but something is in the works. 2nd after much discussion a major culprit to our issue is the actual gearing in to transmission. 1st gear's ratio is 4.48, then second is 2.48. Thats a huge jump, so the faster the RPM's the harder the synchros are working to the mesh the gearing correctly. culprit #2 is the fluid there using in the system. The Clutch is Dot3 fluid the transmission on the other hand is GL5 75w 90 gear oil. Thats some thick stuff, so cold starting and cold launching is going to be a big issue. I have received approval from GM to change my fluid to Synthetic GL5 75w 90 its the same viscosity but its not as bad as standard oil. Most GM Techs i've spoke with are baffled as to why GM has resorted back to that heavy of a grade oil. Most trans fluids used to date, and yes were talking manuals too is Dexron type fluids. Now i've talked with people that have drained the tranny system and replaced it with standard Dexron ATF fluid and have had a big improvement to the shifting. BUT... it's not something i'd wanna do since using it isn't approved and it'll VOID your warranty. Hope this sheds some light and i'll provide more details as they come to me.

Here is a second recommendation to all of you that i'm noticing your heavy footed like me lol. I've also been told that one of the other problems with the grinding is, well were shifting too fast, and that's what the dealer told me, he backed his story up by a report that GM has announced to the dealerships about how to troubleshoot this issue. If your launching at the traffic light like your staging at the grid for the 1/4 mile drag race the synchros and the clutch just can't change ratio's that quickly. So if your going to be driving aggresive and well i think thats why we bought the car lol. Well here's another suggestion for ya. During the GM natl's there were several vendors, and other Camaro Owners telling me that the Cadillac CTS not the V but the 3.6L CTS from 2005 thru 2007 used the AY6 trans and because thats a Huge performance car for the Cadillac croud there are some aftermarket clutch kits that i've personally looked at that would give you the necessary edge and response were all looking to get out of our AY6 Transmissions do to the fact that its the same configuration transmission. Hope all this new knowledge helps ya out.
