How much gain in the 1/4 from lighter rims?

Has anyone done a compare of 1/4 mile times between stock rims and the lighter forged? How much do they actually help?

So people are willing to pay big bux for the forged rims because of the claimed difference resulting from less unsprung weight and reciprocating mass but no one has tested these claims?

I went from the stock 20" midnight silver rims to 20" tsw Nurembergs that were wider. Also went with lower profile but much wider rear tires and some what wider front tires.

Basically went wider for more traction and I lost around 30lbs total. It feel like it was more responsive from a dead stop, also my ET was about .1 faster. To get a big change I think you'd need to go down in size to take advantage of different gearing and of course much lighter weight.

Sent from my SAMSUNG Galaxy S III using telekinesis.

It all depend on the wheel/tire combination.

If you're staying with 20" wheels but just going lighter, you'll probably see a couple (.2 tenths) or so. Combine with drag radials and you can drop another tenth or two.

I dropped from 12.4s - 12.5s to 12.1s - 12.2s after getting my 20" Nurburgrings (24 lbs) and drag radials. Some some of that gain is from the drag radials.
But at my power level (just bolt ons), I had to have drag radials to hook.

I got back and ankle issues so I can't get to the track, but I expect my times to drop to 11.9s - 12.0s with my 18" wheel combination (20 lb wheels with tires with more sidewall).

I'm skeptical, it seems that the et gains were only from traction gain. I don't think a 30lb loss would do anything. 100 = .1

Hard thing to test, you'd need good traction before and after with only the rim weight change.

30lbs rotating mass is different than carrying 30 lbs in the car

That's what I hear, I read all about it but haven't heard of anybody testing it.

Supposedly, every pound of rotational mass is equal to 5-10 pounds of payload weight. That is pretty significant if it is true.

I agree. IF. Someone needs to test this. If I had time to ever go to the track I would..

I wondered this, but my ignorance on this issue suggested it was not significant. My new wheels are about 5lbs heavier (not per wheel, but overall) than the stockers, so I figured that would not be much at all.

If your statement is true, then I just added the equivalent to 25 to 50lbs more payload weight? :(

Everyone keeps saying this, but no one seems to have supporting data.

Quite simply, what are your 1/4 mile times before and after you went to lighter wheels?
