Ive always been fascinated with Carbon Fiber, and i love the looks of it, but parts are so expensive, specially for the Camaro

So i thought i start making my own CF parts.

I have never in my life worked with CF or Fiberglass, so i have 0 experience with epoxy's etc. I did some research and saw a few videos on Youtube, and most importantly I learned by experience (ask me how

)
For a first timer i think i did ok. i give it a 7 out of 10.

So here are the pics, not the best quality (iPhone) but it gives you an idea.
I started with the dash trim pieces and the rocker panels, i will follow with the door inserts, the rear diffuser, engine cover, etc.

Please be kind, i know they are not perfect, but im proud to day that i did them myself.

This is the laying of the CF fabric after the glue.

After a few coats of epoxy, (good thing i bought the good stuff that has no fumes)

after sanding and polishing

"final product" they will be removed when im doing my other parts to fix a few blemishes on the edges.

Here is the what ive spent so far:
I got a kit from ebay that includes all you need, and it cost me like $98

I still have 1/2 of the CF cloth left, but no more epoxy (cause i screwed up a couple of times).

Everything else i already had, but you will need:
Dremel
hair dryer
Swirl remover (or polish paste)
Wax
Sanding pads (3 dolars at walmart)
Food scale (19.99 at walmart)
Masking tape
Scissors
And a barrel of elbow grease

I think ive spent like $120 but i still have a lot of CF cloth left for my other parts, i just need to buy more epoxy.

dang that looks nice. i'd like to see what this would look like in white? i've seen people just wrap the interior parts in the vinyl but i really like the clear look you get with the epoxy over it.

I agree, before this i was looking on to vinyl wrap, but when you compare them its night and day difference IMO. Nothing can beat the 3D look and the depth you get with the real CF and the epoxy ( assuming you get it smooth).

This pictures dont show the depth or the 3D look, but its really pretty when you see it in person.

GREAT JOB! I've done carbon fiber skinning and its not the easiest thing in the world, especially since its so easy for the weave in the CF to get messed up. Lately I've moved onto vacuum bagging for full carbon fiber parts. It's def nice to appreciate your own work.

Thanks, ive learned a LOOOOT the last couple of days, and eventually i hope to make my own CF parts from a mold using a vacuum bagging system, but im long ways from that.

Got any tricks or tips you can share??
