I think we need a picture of this girlfriend...that way we can judge if she's worthy enough to be seen in the Camaro.

Have you thought that maybe your dashboard is getting tired of looking at your girlfriend?

My wife got car sick the first couple times riding in the car with me, because of the seat being so low... So we just got a nice
paint matching" color pillow that she sits on when go anywhere on it. AND I CAN tell you first hand it does absolutely nothing to SRS system. Because I've hooked up my OBD2 Super dooper cool scanner and checked the difference with and without weight in the seat and everything still worked as intended...

Tape a comic book to the dashboard. It'll give her something to do!

I too am 5'3" and have no issues when my hubby is driving. Maybe she has longer legs and a shorter torso and I'm the opposite?????? I don't know...perhaps because I'm the one who's in love with this car, I overlook it??? I know that I was no help to your issue, but it's a comparison anyway.

Having been out of the business for 10 years, it's hard to say which system is used. Some sort of weight classification is likely there and is possibly accomplished by load cells in the seat mounts. This method can also determine the occupant's center of gravity, thus de-powering the airbag in case the occupant is leaning forward, sideways, whatever. Definitely would not want to alter that with new brackets. Another method for occupant sensing could be use of a capaciflector. This is a device developed by NASA that basically can use the moisture in your body as a dielectric for a capacitor, which would be under the seat fabric, thus sensing the presence of a person as opposed to a bag of dog food. Sitting on a cushion would render this method useless. There is also IR, which can send emit and detect laser bouncing off the occupant and then with triangulation determine your position in the seat, thus adjusting the force of the airbag. Then there may be whole new technologies that have been recently developed. Sorry for the long post, just saying, best not to alter something unless you totally understand the potential risks.

A "capaciflector" seriously??

is that like a "flux-capacitor" will it also make the car travel back in time??

Sorry I just could not resist I did not realize there were so many ways this was accomplished.

thanks!
