V6 engine idling sound

Is it normal for their to be a "chirp chirp chirp" sound(about 1 sec intervals) when idling in the V6?

It's not loud enough to sound like a real problem, but just annoys me since it's a constant reminder that the engine sound is not smooth and nice.

No chirp chirp here ? Just a nice gurgle from the Solo exhaust. Might want to have it checked out.

oil the hamster wheel in the engine bay. You should be good to go after that.

If it's a "click click click"-ing sound at just under 1 second intervals, it's just the fuel injectors. They make a lot of noise due to the high fuel pressure in the Direct Injection engine. On start, you'll hear rapid clicking right before it goes into low-idle. At very low parking-lot-speeds, you'll hear the injectors click quickly as you barely accelerate, then settle down to 1-sec intervals again as you return to idle and coast. You don't hear them at speeds above roughly 15 mph.

I totally asked my dealer about that one after making some careful observations. You can even hear the clicking in people's exhaust videos (which I've been watching a lot of, since I am getting an exhaust soon to go with my Injen CAI).

ah, it was the DI that was the culprit of this, haha. I guess it won't bother me any more now. thanks.

Its as Amenti described. Has to do with the ultra lean burn mode where the fuel charge is injected late in the compression stroke under light load conditions.
Its normal.

Yeah that was the guess I got from someone at the dealership when I inquired whether this was normal.

I do feel a lot better knowing that it is from the inherent design of the DI engine that tries to save fuel when idling rather than the belt being out of whack and making wierd noises. Now instead of the clicks bothering me, it serves as a reminder that I have the latest engine technology, lol.

Yeah, I thought it was the belts too, at first. There's actually a GM TSB (Technical Service Bulletin), since so many people ask about the clicking, apparently. I don't know the TSB number offhand.

Is there a way we can look at all TSBs regarding the V6 Camaro? They are all probably good info to have as owners of the vehicle, at least the ones I've heard of so far.

Anything like that would probably be in the warranty/recall/TSB forum. I know someone was keeping track of the major TSBs at one point several months ago.

If you search for it, you might find it.
