I have a question for everyone that wired them to the dome light using the gray wire under the dash. Does the dome light have to be on for the lights to come on when you open the door? I want just the footwells to be on not the dome light when you open the door. Thanks for any help

The only way to do that is to pull the dome-lamp bulb.

Hey guys, just a quick question before I try putting in the footwell lights..

Just wondering how everyone is grounding (and powering) 2 separate led strips? (Probably an ignorant question, I know.) I'm assuming that the two wires are being tied together and treated as one when we ground and also tap into the dome light for power?

Just wanting to clarify this. It's the only piece of information that I couldn't find, and I don't know that much about electrical..

You've got it correct. I tied both of the LED strips' grounds together and grounded them to the bolt under the center console area. There are a few YouTube videos that give a pretty good explanation, this video was my primary reference:

Alright, thanks! The LED strips and SMD12 board dome light have been ordered. Can't wait to see my car glow red at night!

Okay, I didn't want to go through all 32 pages to find an answer if there was one, so can someone tell me how to wire it up to come on with my dome light when I open the door? And also to still be able to switch it on and off manually with my switch.

On the passenger side kick panel connector, once you pinch the two tabs at the top and lift the white handle, am I pulling the connector up or down to release it?

I am just about to tackle this project and was curious as to how many amps the dome light circuit could handle. I am looking to add about 7 amps to the circuit and adjusting the fuse size to 10 amps.

Has anyone experienced any issues pushing that much current through the dome circuit?

As mentioned previously, it would be safest to use the dome circuit to control a relay. You can then pull as much current as the relay could handle.

Thanks for the reply sjmautoprod, I was hoping to keep the slow fade on and off by using the dome circuit. Is there another way to do that?

Just used the grey wire by the accelerator pedal on a 2015 1LT.

Wired it just as post #1 says and it works perfect.

Thanks,
Brad
