The development of the new 5.8-6.2L is still on going, and most engine knowledgeable enthusiasts are going to avoid the 2013 like the plague! But you don't have to take my word for it, you can just scurry back to the mustang forums and read it for yourself

Most of these things are not that expensive, and I don't think it would be a stretch at all to see the base GT500 come in under 54,995.
Not that expensive!? They must really sell things cheap up in Alaska. It's a whole new engine & all of those so called tweaks are expensive. I'm thinking high 50's minimum.

Ford had the challange laid out to them! They could have stepped up and said "we'll do it but we want to do it at _____." Instead they declined! If you think for a minute that if they had the better performing car they would pass your an idiot! The could stop the competition in its track, done and delivered. Ford has been testing the mighty GT500 at THE RING enough to know every corner and straight away, don't make it out that they haven't. I've seen the spy photos and videos. They know the times they are hitting and know what the ZL 1 has done. For them to step up and brag about their new car and claims of superiority over the ZL and then run and hide, it almost as hilarious as hearing someone brag about their familiarity with racing and then use the old but "I can't discuss it" ditch...

What joke, the mustange has how much more power and if the rest of the car was up to par it should hve no problem beating the underpowered car no matter the track! SO guess what that says to ME, the Stang is overpowered and nothing more! If this mustang had the suspension and grip why would ford not want to go hand chevy its ass... because they threw this car together and add a bunch of power for braging rights, your the blind one SYR74! Who backs down from a fight like that I just lost allot respect for ford, man up ford!

I like the challenge. 1/4 mile times is all its been about since the start of pony wars. Chevy rewrote the book and is offering an all round track ready car. I love the fact that I can take a ZL1 to a road course and be competitive with much more expensive vehicles. Straight line numbers are cool, but i'll take a car with very respectable straight line times and unbelievable 'Ring times. Chevy raised the bar IMO.

The only part of that article that matters is "The new 5.4-liter aluminum V-8, introduced in 2011, is now bored to its maximum intended size of 5.8 liters, a capacity that engineers had allowed for in the block but never really expected to use."
Like I said in a previous post, most people who know about engines know enough to stay a way from the stroked 5.4 and wait for the real 5.8-6.2L in 2014.

So a Ford fanboy is whining about a challenge, when they were ALL ready to brag and boast a couple of days ago....
Ford didn't even counter with an option they said NO THANKS...
Take them to a track for a month, let the drivers beat the shit outa the cars and then race for bragging rights, take them to a 1/4 drag track afterwards and do the same.
I owned a 750 RWHP Saleen I know Mustangs and their inability to hook up, I've driven GT500's and highly mod'd ones to boot. They will NOT hook up under balls out power.
Whos to say the changes they've made hasn't sured that? Will apparently NOT or they would run down a poor little lower HP Camaro ....

No, it's the same engine only with a bigger bore, the new engine will be out next year.

Here is an idea, take 5 Shelby's, five ZL1's. Throw in five drivers drawn from Camaro5 and 5 drivers from a Mustang forum. Take them around to different tracks and let them have at it. Film the whole thing like a reality show and put it on Speed.

I for one would rather spend my GGT money on cooler stuff in the car rather then get nothing for my money. $2600 divided by 270 lbs (delta between GT 650 & ZL1 and charging customers GGT and not) a little shy of $10 a pound! With a little extra time and the equivalent of the GGT money do you think GM Eng. could have dropped the weight and not subjected buyers to GGT?
Even if they paid the engineers sweat shop wages they couldn't eliminate a pound for $10.

Really, and what driver did Ford use? Do you really expect them to pit Ernie from engineering against Jan Magnussen's step brother? That is the problem here, who did GM's 'posted' ring times, because GM always has a pro run their hero laps. Ford doesn't post hero times so there is never any reason to bring in a hero to do the lap, a FoMoCo development driver will work just fine. This is clearly intended to slant the board and, truth be told, I think you know it....you just don't like hearing it.
It was an engineer dude, not a professional hot shoe driver! Has he driven the shit outa the car? Hell Yea so would I if given the chance. FORD is doing the same thing, the engineers are testing the cars. They know them, they know the track..Quit whinning about the driver! With the power that the 500 is making my grannie should be able to run down the ZL1
