I cant see the next impala being RWD. The impala is an everybodys family car and a lot of people hate RWD. I still think the G8 should remain RWD because that competes with the 300.

The Ute will be a Pontiac, not a Chevy and will not be called El Camino. Also I heard that the RWD Impala has been canceled.

Yes the RWD Impala has been canceled (for now), BUT, nothing official yet about if or when Pontiac will get the Ute....Just rumors...
It's just my opinion (and my wishful thinking I guess) but It really does not fit into the type Pontiac is marketing to, it is more to Chevy's heritage. and isn't that what Chevy is pushing right now?

True: 100% so. But Chevy can't get it though....I think (not sure) Mr. Lutz had said that the brand is too full as it stands now...(a small part of the reason the Monte Carlo has been discontinued, I'll wager... gotta make room for Camaro)

To clear a few things up:

A RWD Impala is still a possibility, but a FWD version is more likely due to fuel economy and family-friendliness reasons.

Pontiac is likely to move fully to RWD as it is GM's affordable performance division. As such, it will keep a RWD G8 and G8 variants. A RWD Impala would overlap a lot with the G8. A FWD Impala makes a good full-size family sedan for consumers who want just a good car with more room and who don't want an SUV or anything like that.

Lutz has gone on record as saying Chevy already has a full lineup (or more, I would say), so the Ute would just have to go to Pontiac. Another rumor had it going to GMC, which I think makes more sense, but there you have it.

I would expect to see the G8 wagon and Ute within the next few years. Say MY2010 or so.

yup....I'd love to see a Chevy El Camino (my father and uncle always drove them as demos in the 60s and early 70s....) -- BUT......

.......we need to get products to all of our Divisions -- we have dealers out there that have invested a lot of money -- and we're contractually obligated to provide them with a full line-up of cars and trucks so that they can make a reasonable return on their investment --

It's our intent to eventually have Pontiac/Buick/GMC combined under one roof -- so the Ute goes to BPG - a good call.

Really!!??! Hmm. I could see that working rather well, actually.... Is that what it might be called when/if this happens? BPG? or will you keep the names, ya think?
