The first autocross run in my 2SS

Here is a video of the first autocross run in my 2SS:

This was just my second autocross event since the 1980's, so one of the experienced racers volunteered to coach me. With my mentor's help, I was able to shave 12 seconds off my time. I even managed to beat my buddy and his Honda S2000 who's been racing for a few years.

I hope you guys enjoy the video.

well, that was a nice open course compared to the one I did recently. Felt like it was designed for a damn go cart. I admit I'm a novice, but it felt like I had skinnies on the front. Under steering like a MoFo. Good time though. Figured out I'd prefer a track day where I can get out of second gear!!

You are right most of the courses are setup for a go cart, LOL, 455HP is way to much HP for these courses, the tires were breaking loose by just touching the pedal, I ordered a 1LT 2.0 6 speed with RS, Tech and performance brake package which should do really well on these courses. You need to take that beast on an open course race track.

Great video!

I was thinking the same thing by the end of the day. The 2.0T weighs 300 lbs less and has better weight distribution. With light weight 18" wheels the 2.0T would be great tool for autocross and on tight canyon roads.

On my second run I forgot to turn off traction and stability control. It made my car wildly unpredictable, upsetting the tires every time I applied power or turned into a corner. I won't make that mistake again.

As long as you had fun.
That is cool, we all start as newbies.

So awesome you made it out this weekend. I wanted to head over to say Hi to you and check out your 2016 SS but I was busy with instructing some other novices. It sounds like your instructor was Jon, he is fantastic you couldn't have had a better copilot for your first runs. You did damn good for your first time out with a best time of 78.749 which would have put you in 5th place in FS and knocking on the door of the Red Boss 302 Mustang that runs FS with us.

It was a challenging course with most of the street classes averaging times in the low 70s. zMax is such a great facility with a lot of room so we rarely have times under 60 seconds but this one was a bit longer than normal. (which as far as I am concerned is a good thing) We had almost 30 novices yesterday, and I hope you had a really great time and will be coming back again July 9th and 10th for our 2 day event.

I've been running autocross for pretty regularly for 40 years. I just ran my new 1ss for the first time two weeks ago.

Just remember the other cars in your class have the same problems. Huge size, too much horsepower. Only two things will help you significantly, practice, and tires. Run all you can if you want to get better at it.

Yeah, 455HP is not necessary but it was a riot.

Thank you Egon. Jon's patient and enthusiastic coaching was the only reason I was able to post a decent time. I am very grateful he took the time to help a noobie out. Some of the tips he gave me seemed so counter intuitive but he was right every time when I put them into practice.

I won't be able to do the 2-day event but I am planning to race at least a few more times this year.
