"fixed" spoiler chipping today

I'm one of the many that have had the spoiler chipping problem. I finally took the spoiler off to find A LOT of damage under the spoiler. I picked up some rubber washers at Lowes and touched up the chips with Dr. Chip. I think the size washers that I used was 3/8x7/8x1/16. Here are the before pictures.

The good news is you really cant see any of the touch up paint. It wasn't really all that pretty, but it was to prevent rust. I didn't want to get my lid repainted since I have a custom bowtie and am leary about color matching. This will do just fine. On the outside of the spoiler it is a very nice distance from the lid and in the middle it's a little higher than I would like, but it will serve its purpose.

Color matching and a custom bowtie. You can't see 99% of the touchup that I did. The fix entailed just the 1/16" rubber washers.

How difficult was it to remove the spoiler?

If you can't see it then that's a plenty fine touch up just to stop any further chipping. It works.

I doubt it. It's torqued down just like OEM. I pressed firmly down everywhere on the spoiler and it's solid

It's very easy. 6 nuts and a plastic clip to press and pull the spoiler out. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see it. I'm upset with my dealer because I called them a week ago to check back in with the body shop about the chipping. I have not gotten a response and decided to fix it for $3 by myself.

I agree with this approach. Sometimes taking your car to the dealer is far more trouble than it's worth. I have respect for my local dealer, but I cannot respect the amount of time they spend and the nuisance of getting a ride to and fro if you dont wait on the car

Ya Ackeight, Took mine off after seeing a little chipping on passenger side with only 100 miles on vechicle. Looked almost exactly like yours or even worse !!! Mine is RJT with silver rallies !! Dreaded taking it too dealer for complete trunk lid repaint, so decided to do same as you and repair it best i could. ACE hardware had the rubber washer and a also bought there Super Firm Sponge Tape ( closed cell ) Size: 1/4 in. x 3/8 in. x 10' long to replace the to thin OEM tape on spoiler. The dealer did give me touch up paint free of charge but i did the touch up and rubbing compound work !! Now it is much better and spoiler doesn't rest on the trunk lid any more. It does sit higher now like yours does. Saw new 2011 camaros at the local New auto show, and there spoilers are now all lifted off the lids like this too .. Apparantly the assembly line got the word of there mess up of the earlier spoiler mounting on 2010's and some 2011's ..

There is an updated gasket kit that GM has engineered and GM's engineering department is currently proofing the TSB on this. I have been working with GM exec support in Detroit now for about a month now. They bought me a MPD1 wing to cover up chipping and I am not waiting on the updated gasket kit for the MPD1 wing ...
