I couldn't agree with you more. The shuttles SHOULD still be flying. None of them got used even half as much as they were built for.

What's really sad is we're going to be coming up on a generation of kids who will have no idea what a space shuttle is.

And since I just told Fen this, I figured I'd go ahead and post it in my thread.

Does anyone (with the exception of Fen) know why KSCVC picked to tilt Atlantis 43.21 degrees?

Simple.

4-3-2-1.. Liftoff!

Endeavour's final exhibit is going to be in a launch configuration with the SRBs and ET I believe.

I remember years ago seeing these designs of the possible second generation space shuttle:

it was exciting to imagine this next phase of space exploration. who's have thought we'd be where we are now? although it is disappointing that NASA has decided to concentrate more heavily on non-manned space exploration and research, companies like Space X do give one hope that some exciting new ideas are coming to the future of manned space exploration.

I am going to a plan a trip within a year or 2 to visit one of the shuttle's, would be a great Camaro cruise as well, but I have to see one in person just so they could blow me away one more time.

I still think the space program should be a high priority in school, especially grade school. It should be a major subject taught over a few years time.

It really should. I don't remember much from grades 1-4 but I do remember watching STS-95.

I sincerely hope to see another reusable spacecraft along the lines of the shuttles in my lifetime. I feel like SLS is almost a step backwards from what we've been accomplishing.

Endeavour will remain how it is now until 2017. Then it'll be put in launch configuration with one payload bay door open.

It's not that NASA is more focused on unmanned rockets, it's that they weren't prepared to have Constellation canceled.

What Space Shuttle do you plan on visiting?

If SLS goes as currently planned, it will be around until at least 2032.

I'll be 41. Better have something good cooked up by then.

I highly doubt it'll be the last flight though. To say the least, SLS will be around for a while unless it gets canceled.
