Wilwood or ZL-1/CTS-V?

I have the stock SS calipers on larger (14.25?) R1 Concepts slotted & cross drilled rotors. I really want to go to a 6 piston front and 4 piston rear. I’ve already done stainless lines and DOT 4 fluid.

I can get the Wilwood Aero 6 front and rear kits in the blue I like for about $5,000. What would be required (and from where) to go with the GM kits? I mean complete parts list of you don’t mind. Wilwood’s website is point and click easy. I’d need to also budget in good quality powder coating as the GM calipers only come in 3 or 4 colors.

Thank you greatly for any help in making this a quick and easy upgrade.

ZL1 rears are the same as SS.

To upgrade the fronts you need calipers, but there are a lot of ways to skin that cat. ZL1 calipers, if they still sell them, are pretty pricey. I suggest either Z06 or Gen6 1LE calipers (not ZL1-1LE calipers). The Vette calipers actually have vented pistons to help keep them cool.

Z06 Calipers- different colors are different part numbers, so you should check out RockAuto (I looked under 2015 Corvette 6.2 supercharged)

GM gets their rotors from Brembo, so I just used the Brembo units since they are bit cheaper 09A66513 & 09A66523 (they used to be a lot cheaper)

Pads are a personal decision, but be sure to get a set that includes the hardware kit or the separate hardware kit.

Stainless Steel Brake Line Kit #12227 by Goodridge

Dust shields are no longer available

1. Z06 Calipers (Same as ZL1 calipers only they have ventilated pistons).
Best prices have been on Rock Auto:
LF: AC Delco 172-2669
RF: AC Delco 172-2670

2. ZL1 Brake lines. Could order stock OEM lines or upgrade to Goodridge Stainless Steel lines pn12227.

3. ZL1 brake pads:
ACDelco 171-1040

4. ZL1 brake rotors.
LF: AC Delco 177-1145
RF: AC Delco 177-1146

5. Brake Pad Pin Kit.
ACDelco 18K2108X

6. Brake Fluid (highly recommend Motul 660RBF or Castrol SRF).

I chose Z06 conversion. Im having them powder coated to the color i wanted which ended up being Illusion Copper from prismatic powders. Z06 calipers are vented pistons, which i figured id prefer to have.

I went with:

ACDelco GM Original Equipment 172-2669 Red Front Driver Side Disc Brake Caliper
ACDelco GM Original Equipment 172-2670 Red Front Passenger Side Disc Brake Caliper
ACDelco Gold 18K2108X Front Disc Brake Caliper Hardware Kit with Clips, Pins, and Bolts
ACDelco Gold 18K1970X Rear Disc Brake Caliper Hardware Kit with Clips and Pins
BREMBO P37018N (Front) Premium NAO Ceramic OE Equivalent Pad Set
BREMBO P11024N (rear) Premium NAO Ceramic OE Equivalent Pad Set
Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake Line Kit #12227

Waiting to pick rotors now. Debating OEM vs DBA 5000 series 2 piece fronts and single rears.

Could go Giro Disc as well. For ZL1 2 piece rotors all around, plus they are a tick lighter than the DBA’s.

Thank you very much. I already have the Goodrich lines and Motul DOT 4.

Would I have to change the rotors? Could I just get the Z06 calipers and new pads?

Do you want it "for looks" or better brakes?

If you want better brakes put Carbotech AX6 pads on what you have.

Leo love the copper!!!

Olblue thanks for the tip.

FASTFATBOY probably looks at this point. I have the larger slotted & cross drilled rotors, stainless lines & DOT 4 fluid, but I’m wanting the 6 piston fronts. I’m surprised the ZL1 has 2 piston rears like the SS.

ZL1 rotors are considerably bigger, you will need to go to the correct size rotor. They are also a good bit thicker and absorb the heat much better, i.e. transfer less heat to the fluid.

I went with the Z06/ZL1 six piston. A large part of the decision was the easy availability of replacement parts. If I'm 500 miles from home I can go into most any auto parts store and get parts. If I went with Wilwood or any other aftermarket brand I might be stuck waiting for parts.

Just my .02.

This too. Much easier to get parts locally.
