Skip shift just serves to highlight the absurdity of policies like CAFE. It is designed to game the fuel-economy testing method. During testing it will be driven in such a way that skip-shift improves fuel economy. However, as some people here have demonstrated, in the real world drivers will just hit the gas harder to override it, hurting fuel economy. Absurd.

I'm just gonna buy the eliminator. Even GM openly admits that is a smart choice, and skip shift is only in there to please the fuel economy testers.

I think if they had any sense they would put a menu on the DIC that lets you "adjust" the settings for some of these nanny systems. Make it so you can turn the thing off and have it remember the setting if you so choose.

What do the rest of you guys think of that?
If they could adjust it, then it wouldn't guarantee that you'd shift like it wanted you to. That would make it harder for the Camaro to achieve a decent MPG rating. And the system wasn't supposed to be defeated, because that too would make it impossible to get the same rating.

Given the control a driver has over the gas pedal and shifting, it's impossible to guarantee that you'll get those mpg figures, but with the feature in place, you're more likely to get it. And who knows if the EPA would test with it off if it weren't mandatory?

Trust me, it's for our own good that it's there and so easily defeated, if it weren't, as has been mentioned before, there'd be a 2-3k gas guzzler tax on top of the price.

skipshit suks....first mod i did. turning left was the worst...plus it is unnatural, hard as hell on the drivetrain and I am skeptical about real world increases in mileage..... but........its an easy fix........$25 gets got me there.

Could going from 1st to 4th possibly cause premature wear to the clutch? I know at least with my car (4cyl) it's nearly impossible without riding on the clutch. I am not used to driving with extreme low end torque so I may not fully comprehend this yet.

not really, the way its use is intended is because 90% of comuters shoot off from a stop, get to 25-30-35mph and then let off the gas, so you only have to shift once instead of 3 times to get to cruising gear

Don't worry, the slowest of Camaros will have enough torque to deal with a 1-4 shift.

I regularly go 1st to 3rd, or 2nd to 4th in the Evo, but 1st to 4th? Yikes. I do it when I'm hovering around 7k rpm big difference. If it's true, that will be the first to go.

yeah, but how much torque do you make down low in the rpms?
