Premium is recommended, but it can run on regular with lower performance.

dont use regular on performance engines...my truck has a 5.7 hemi and i put regular even though midgrade was recomended and I had to flush out my engine a month ago at 30000 miles cuz of all the crap that built up in my engine.

so please use the grade recomended.

That is a myth. Flush out what part of your engine? Do you mean cleaning your injectors? Or something else? Any fuel will leave carbon deposits on your valves/combustion chamber, it is part of the combustion process. Some may be worse than others if you believe the advertising, but it is definitely not related to octane.

As to the recommended octane, if you really want to save the money and you always take it easy driving, you could use regular. But who buys a v8 camaro to baby it? I recommend premium, for an extra $5 a week to get the performance you paid for in the car seems worth it to me.

Depends on where you live though. Here premium is $1.50 more then regular at the low end and now is as much as $2 more per gallon. Mid grade isn't much better running about $1 more then regular per gallon.

Holy crap, I live in the communist state of California and premium is only 30-40 cents more a gallon.

Wow, that is ridiculous. Sounds like an additional state tax because it definitely does not cost that much more to produce.

Is that a gallon or a tank? Do you live far from the city because gaspricewatch lists premium as being 30-50 cents more a gallon in most cities in west NC. I feel for you if you don't live near a city with gas competition. I remember when I lived in California and the gas prices were about $2 - if you traveled through the mountains or desert, the crooks were charging $4.50 a gallon. Biggest sleezbags in the country - should be shot in the streets taking advantage of people like that

That's insane. There's about a 20 to 25 cent difference between the grades here.

Regular is currently $2.85 and I believe Super/Premium was $3.13.
