The break even point (then) was supposed to be around 50k, but our dollar doesn't go as far as it did.

If the ZL1 is 82k in Canada, and under 55 in the US ... yeah, its a no brainer to buy it in the states. But if its anything like 50k US/60k CAN you might be better off trying to get a local dealer to knock a couple thousand off his price. Especially if our dollar is close (or less than) parity.
Yeah..I guess if its maybe up to about 6 grand more,I still would be pissed off.. but any more than that and its just a retarded waste of money to buy one here. I seriously would then consider a used GT500 as well if that happens and I can't buy a ZL1 cheaper down south.
I find the disparity in price between US dealers and Canadian dealers to be ignorant and unfair. There is no legitimate reason for this disparity except GM/GM Canada are obviously being greedy somewhere along the line. With respect to the Camaro, the damn things are even build here for bleepin sakes!!

Come on GM..fix the stupid mistake instead of ripping off the Canadian consumer, and lets get on with it.

The price in Canada will be way higher than in the US even though our dollar is on par with the US$.
If a Callaway car is selling up here for $79k, you know that prices are inflated.
Hopefully the car will come in under $70.
My Lingenfelter car will still be cheaper, faster, and handle just as good.

Mine will definitely be automatic...................

Sales tax varies from 0% to ~9% depending on the state. So if it were 5%, your $3000 is correct for the $60000 example, but it could be up to ~$5400. Gas Guzzler tax for the CTS-V is either $1300 for the manual or $2600 for the auto. So assuming you get that deal you are paying between $61300 and $68000 for your CTS-V all in. Back to the MSRP and it is between $65640 and $72730 out the door.

Well...here's food for thought. I just went on Ford Canada's website and built myself an entry level Shelby.
Price = $54,989.00 in Canada. Add tax, $6599.00, and total out the door is $61,588.00.
Now I KNOW you can buy them cheaper off the lot...so I'm SURE GM Canada has done their homework, ....cause if they are intending to come in at equal to or less than the Shelby price, I'm sure most people would be ok with that.

I also think many people may opt for a Shelby here in Canada if the price is higher on the ZL1.

Boss's are quite a bit cheaper..48-49 msrp up here, so that would be an option for many if ZL1 $ too high...yeah they are only 440hp, but still a cool car , and more power than the SS ..The BOSS is also quite different than a regular GT.

The "Different" factor being the important thing here, because a lot of people considering a ZL1 are partially doing so to separate themselves from the tons of run-of-the-mill SS's, mustangs etc. People tend to like semi-exclusivity, besides the extras the cars have to offer. This is also why Camaro owners desire for different colors is so great. Color choices are a cheap ticket to more exclusivity(?) for customers of all levels, which is why I have a hard time with Chevrolet not providing more color choices for people...but I am skewing from the topic..
Camaro's have always (pretty much) been a car you can set yourself apart from others with. Thats what people want out of a car that is more than just transportation. And Camaro's and Mustangs are and have always been MORE than just transportation to their owners.
peace out.

Our finance minister wants an inquiry into why cars and other items cost so much more in Canada, and to see if that can change......................

I was told today by a Chev Dealership in Etobicoke that the ZL1 won't be for sale in Canada!! Now that doesn't make sense given it's made just outside of Toronto!!

No way I will pay $70K for a Camaro.

As much as I like the ZL1, it's just a Camaro made by GM. No offense to all the great Camaro owners here, but GM have to realize that as crazy as the ZL1 is, it still doesn't change the fact that GM is NOT a premium brand.

Just like the GT500, it's still a Mustang, the ZL1 is still a Camaro.

ZL1

Just came back from Local Canadian GM dealer.

I was talking to the General Manager who is not a friend but I have meet through communitee events.

Conversation went like this:

Me: So do you have a list going for the new ZL1.
GM: Nope but if you want to the first one in the area we can order you one up.
Me: Well I don't want to be first because I don't want to pay any mark up .
GM: No worries we don't sell above MSRP, Guarantied!
Me: Do you have an option list yet.
GM: lets go talk to the sales manger and see what comes up.
I am thinking sweet. He went through what ever process he does to build a car and he could pick the ZL1. But as soon as he clicked option it came up not availble. I knew he wouldn't be able to from the info I have read hear but I wanted to see what happened.
GM: We will call you when we have access to the info.
Me: Sweet do you want a deposit or anything. What do you think this is going to cost me?
Gm: Nope no deposit, our owner owns 22 dealers so we shouldn't have an issue getting what you want. As for price we are competting with the GT500 so don't expect it to be more and it may come in less.
Me: Really?
GM: We are in the business of selling cars not having them sit in our show room.
Me: You got my number.

I don't think its going to be $85 grand. I am guessing around $65 at most any more and i heading south to buy. Shelby GT 500 start at $59 on ford. ca. I did it with my truck and i'll do it again. Bought an new 08 3500 Crew Cab Long box loaded for just over $50 cdn of a lot in the states and delivered to Vancouver. Same truck up hear at the time $73

This is just my opinion take it for what its worth
