Header coating

I'm about to order Kooks headers 1-7/8" but I'm wondering if you guys have been ordering them coated or not. Maryland Speed offers coating but I haven't read much about people ordering heades and then coating them. Your thoughts?

I had mine coated and they look awesome.. If you plan to open you hood at all to show, then I would really go that way.

coated for sure.......its cheaper to have them coated and purchased at 1 place...rather than ordering them plane , then shipping to a coater

I'm definitely going with coated headers...they look sweet. I'm not a fan of the look of stainless after it has been heat-cycled.

Yes without doubt get them coated or they are not worth installing. Maryland uses Precision Motorsports in FL and I had mine done there in Durochrome. They do a great job. I watched the whole process and it is quite interesting!

I just ordered a kooks set coated. Ive delt with rusty headers in the past and it sucks having that dropping into your eyes when your underneath and also the resale value will be higher, longer lasting, less heat under the hood, and not to mention it looks nicer.

I have heard that coating on stainless steel will keep the heat in the primaries and is bad for scavenging and then I have heard that it helps the velocity of the exhaust. I would really like a no BS answer on if it is good or bad from a true expert.

I'm not an expert, but if you aren't concerned about cosmetics, then skip the coating. IMO, appearance is the only no-BS reason to do it. Are there performance benefits? Sure. Are they enough to justify the additional expense? Probably not unless you have special circumstances.
