Check CARB and see if your vendor's product has a CARB tag http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...es/amquery.php Worst case I have seen is car gets tagged as a gross polluter or heavy fined for removal or modify smog designs. In the end know what your state or county requires and if in doubt have a smog shop do a PRE test so if car fails the results do not get posted to the states records. In the end most likely the smog shop will not do a visual but clearly tuning the PCM will assure better overall performance, you will not have to turn off error codes and the car will pass I/M tests and with a custom tune fitted for your car's makeup, the elevation you live at, the type of gas used and your drive style the car can even pass the I/M 240 tests which is on a threadmill at speeds of 15 and 25 MPH for 240 seconds and they are testing exhaust makeup at the muffler tip |

Hopefully this covers all the reply content the poster had
MY reply is in UPPER CASE 14. Doing the exhaust mods cause then the 02 sensors to be in a cooler temp, if rear 02s are maintained there is a better chance tests pass but without them and the fact front 02s are reporting a different AFR due to their placement will cause both short and long term fuel trims to be out of wack. And if mine were out of wack, I'd be getting my CEL light, right? Because it did come on...but turned itself back off. No problems...no issues... NO, THE AFR CAN BE OFF AS MUCH AS 12 % LEAN OR 12% RICH WHICH IS THE ALLOWED WINDOW BEFORE A DTC IS TRIPPED. THAT IS A HUGH SPREAD ALLOWED FOR EPA BUT LOUSY FOR BEST PERFORMANCE. WINTER OR SUMMER WOULD HIDE OR SHOW AFR (FUEL TRIMS) BEING IN OR OUT OF THE OPERATING WINDOW AND THUS CES IS OFF BUT AFR IS CLOSE TO THOSE DTC TRIGGER POINTS. ONLY USING A GOOD OBD SCANNER IN RECORD MODE AND A GOOD 10 MILE DRIVE USING ALL DIFFERENT ENGINE CONDITIONS AND THEN ANALYZING THE SAVED RECORDING CAN POINT YOU TO HOW GOOD OR BAD THE TOTAL DESIGN IS TO PERFORMANCE OR MEETING EPA TESTS. |

JR-Vette,
Thank you for jumping in here....honestly. I am impressed by your professionalism and courteousness. I hope you stick around to help answer other folks questions in other threads as well. However, you need to shorten your replies a bit... Only kidding! It's late...need to hit the sack...but, I do have a couple questions I'd like to ask. I will send in PM's so you can respond at your leisure. |

Hey no problem
My views come from years of tuning and seeing total horror stories of people who without research plastered all types of mods only to find the end results poor and then bad tuning making it worse to where owners wanted to dump the car. My content is only to allow others to get more tech information to help them make better choices in the changes they make to their car and proper tuning can make even ill designed mods to marry better to the engines performance. Being techie in most cases is like writing a book and I understand the blank looks I get when doing demo of OBD and tuning at colleges. |

Tag,
Are you just running the 2 O2 sensors? If yes will you be looking at upgrading and putting in the other 2 as mentioned earlier?
