New Mufflers Installed for $150 (No NPP)

I researched muffler options for weeks and realized there was nothing under $500? Wow, really?

Using the old hot rod playbook, I went down to the local autoparts store and bought 2.5" universal straight through mufflers (Part #87522CB), $25 each.

I took them down to the local muffler shop and was surprised once we got the Camaro up on the lift to see the stock muffler. It's huge and weights probably 30-35lbs. Removing it made the car even lighter.

We installed the universal mufflers for $100 which sound nice and aggressive.

Yes it is vinyl wrap (3M 1080 Automotive Wrap) and I have another thread here:
http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=465678

I will post more pictures. I've done it in carbon fiber, and gloss black also. I tend to lean more towards the matte black myself. Peelable Paint by Rustoleum or Plasti Dip also works if you want to go cheaper and do it yourself. The vinyl can get tricky around the bowtie.

Thanks for asking.

It's definitely louder and more aggressive but I've heard some motorcycles much louder. The stock exhaust with no NPP was so quiet you could not even hear it from the inside except at WOT. I have a manual so it's pretty easy to make it quite, just shift below 2500 RPM.

Sounds good! Smart man. If you aren't going for NPP, this is a good option. Another option for someone with the stock muffler would be to get QTP electric cutouts installed right in front of the muffler and have a half price NPP setup that's way louder when open

Wow, looks like you went all out on your exhaust with headers and high flow cats. Do you have any numbers on increased HP and Torque? The straight through mufflers was just a short term solution because I couldn't stand it being so quite. I used to own a 69 Camaro with headers and x-pipe which had no cats and flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers. That setup produced a lot of droning in the interior. Can you give me more details on your exhaust setup for my future mods? Very interested in know what high flow cats you used and it looks like Stainless Works Headers?

The highflow cats are just the ones Stainless Works includes if you need cats. I have no numbers on gains as it was done mostly for sound but I'm hoping to get some dyno numbers soon when it gets some tuning done. This was the exhaust I ordered from Stainless Works: http://stainlessworks.net/camaro-ss-2016-headers. You can pick whether you want 1 7/8" or 2" primaries, high flow cats or off road pipes, if you have an A8 you can either get functional afm valves or dummy mounts to keep from getting codes. It necks down from there from 3" to 2.5" into the stock muffler or you can buy their NPP mufflers or standard mufflers and it won't neck down and stays 3". The only thing I didn't like was I never saw a mention on that page that there are 2.5" chambered mufflers hidden inside the x-pipe so I had them send me another x-pipe with nothing inside so it stays 3". This kit has no drone going into the stock NPP muffler whether the NPP valves are opened or closed. However with the QTP cutouts open, there is an INSANE amount of drone.
