I'm liking what I see here. I would assume the short stay for the '09 model was tossed out for many reasons. One reason that is obvious to me would be the fact that the Gen. V engines would not be ready in time and the Camaro would have to make due with an L76 for a short time. I'm assuming the Gen. V engines will be ready for Feb. '09 production and Mar. '09 sales!

Oh sweet mother of God. 400 hp V8, priced similar to the mustang GT but able to open up a can 'o whoopass on the SRT8's. I believe that is GM's way of saying they are sorry for the wait for the 5th Gen. To all those who can't figure out what this engine is, its a new engine (at least to us, possibly to everyone). There are no 6.0L engines from GM in North America that make 400+ hp. Calling it an L76 is as justified as calling it an LS2. THIS is why we were told to forget everything we've heard about engines. Also, the roll out isn't too far off from what we've been told. We assumed February, but that was just in the middle of the 1st quarter of 2009. March is still first quarter. And I also believe that January production is right too, they are planning on doing a test run of 30 cars in late october, see how things go, then ramp up. January is slightly later than thought, but not by much. A couple weeks, thats it. But still the same relative to the sale date. I am in a bit of disbelief about this, and so I will attempt to hold off my excitement until one of the resident GM employees can confirm this. I mean, it can't be possible can it?

Do you think a Gen V, or a new version of an existing Gen IV??
Just curious which one you think.

Is it me, or did I just hear every Chevy salesman in the country rub their hands together and say (in a rather meniacal, devious tone): "I can't wait to see what kind of markup I can get away with!" Seriously people, don't buy the hype - DON'T PAY ABOVE STICKER! |

i agree dgthe3. why would they take sooooo long doing sooo many test for a l76? i just keep thinking, gm did what they did with a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder in the solstice, imagine what that transfers to in a 6.0 liter 8 cylinder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! turbo or no, let's get our gen v on!!!!!

I have no clue. Technically it shouldn't be either, gen V's aren't supposed to be comming for a while, and there aren't supposed to be any more gen IV's.

Just what I want in a V8 avaiable at realease. Meaning when I do afford it in a few years I'll be able to get in evheaper since the engine I want has been avaiable all along

6.0 Liter LS3?
Anyways, no matter what engine gets used...Don't underestimate it due to displaacement, or whatnot. Wait for the numbers before you judge to harshly. I remember people doing that about the L76 at first in the G8. Some laughed. Look what it did to the Charger. GM is on this. Mark my words, no matter what engine gets popped in, We WON'T be disapointed. It'll have AFM, and 400 horses (at the very least in the way of features). Anybody really wanna complain about that? |

LS3 doesn't have AFM and isn't 6.0L. So unless the information posted is total garbage, then it can't be a variant of the LS3. AFM can be added to an engine with a little bit of work, but the displacement issue doesn't have such an easy work around.
