1le rear suspension vs ss suspension

is there much of a difference between the 2?

i have a 1LE and i am pulling the rear end out and going with a strange setup and was gonna sell my entire setup to a friend and he asked what the difference between his and mine is other than the 3.91 ratio i thought they 1LE had some upgrades to it for the track for traction?

You should be able to find the differences here.

The suspension is beefed up more so you can track the car.

Shocks are stiffer but provide much better handling. Your friend will notice the difference, sway bars bigger as well in case hes receiving that too.

And the shocks on the 1LE have defective damping/ valving ,and should have been recalled and replaced free . BANG

Sooner or later you are going to get the dreaded bang over certain road bumps . Only cure is to replace the front shocks.

Not sure if i should get factory struts or aftermarket...
Any suggestions???

I don't have the "BANG" yet but was thinking about the B6 bilsteins. Rock auto had a decent deal on them but 1 was out of stock. Plan on lowering mine so figured while I'm in there....

The bang was associated with the front struts primarily. He will be getting exactly what MS3 posted. A large improvement over the standard SS suspension.

So the 1LE
1 Bigger front sway bar
2 Bigger rear sway bar with outboard mounting
3 Stiffer rear shock mounts
4 Valving is different in shocks and struts
5 Shared rear links from the ZL1 and Z28
6 20x10 front 20x11 rear forged wheels with squared 285s.
7 Heavier front sway bar links
8 3.91 Diff same case as SS/Z28
9 Transmission has a different gear set in the first few gears

BANG only happened in colder weather right guys? below 40f ? My shocks were fine in the summer time. Or do I have that backwards? I don’t remember, I swapped out my suspension a while ago.

Hell no , happens in both cold and hot weather on certain bumps . The cure is Bilstein B6 shocks or coil overs. This should have been a recall by Chevrolet, the valving was a faulty design .If Bilstein can do it ,so could have Chevrolet. And in fact for what Chevrolet charged for the 1LE package they could have used the good Bilstein shocks to begin with at the same cost or at most $100.00 more .

Question

What's the OEM replacement number (or Bilstein) for the front shocks..?

Thanks

You can find the rears cheaper on Rock Auto.
