2011 L99 Camaro Exhaust Question
Attached are a couple of pics of the rear portion of the exhaust on my 2011 L99 Vert I just picked up yesterday. What are the spring things in the pics? My 2010 L99 didn't have these. Any ideas?

Is this some sort of spring loaded flap to help quiet the exhaust sound at lower rpms?
Anyone else see this in their stock 2011 or 2010 exhaust? This car seems significantly quieter than my 2010 L99 was. |

Maybe GM added something so that our cars don't sound so stupid when the AFM kicks in.

Agreed!!!
My 2010 was too quiet for my taste with the stock exhaust. I liked the sound of the SLP Loudmouth axle back with AFM disabled. I have the SLP Loudmouth axle back that was on the 2010 (put the stock muffs on before I traded it), but I wonder about those spring loaded things in the pictures that would still be in the loop if I install the Loudmouth on the 2011. Guess I may have to go with the SLP catback system that would connect up to the Loudmouth. |

Have you noticed if they move at all when you start the engine?

OBSSET, No I have not checked to see if they moved when the engine was started. However I did use a screwdriver to remove the tension on both ends of the spring on each side :-). This seems to make it sound closer to my stock 2010. So I am assuming this is some sort of spring loaded butterfly valve designed to keep the exhaust tone down under low RPMs.
Anyone else seen these (see pictures above) on their 2011 stock exhaust, vert or otherwise? Like as stated before, my 2010 L99 did not have these. I did contact SLP regarding their catback system and here is the reply is received: "Part# 30220 cannot be used on a convertible due to an extra support that is in place. Headers and cats will fit and all axle backs will fit." I sent a reply asking if they will have a catback system that will work with the vert in the near future. I will post their reply. Anyone know of another good catback that works with the L99 vert? |

Got rid of those spring things plus all the other extras? in the stock L99 vert exhaust!!!
I installed a stock LS3 exhaust along with the SLP loudmouth I on my L99 vert and I love the sound. There were absolutely no fitment issues what so ever. It is significantly louder and better sounding then the L99 vert exhaust was with the loudmouth I. Love the sound! Below is a link to a picture showing the difference between the two. There are lots of LS3 stock exhausts out there being thrown away that could make for a very reasonable upgrade over the stock L99 vert exhaust (probably the L99 coupe too). Got mine for $100, thanks again Mike! http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138508 Last edited by melbourne_ls1; 04-13-2011 at 06:15 PM. |

You beat me to posting pictures of this but I noticed it this weekend on a L99 Convertible. I checked all the V6 Convertibles and did not see it. I also looked under the 2011 L99 Coupes that came in when the Convertibles did and noticed they did not have this. Maybe it is something that is just on the Convertibles

I just came from my local Chevrolet dealer and he had 2 SS's, the 6 speed did not have them and the auto(like mine)had them. Still tryting to figure out what they are and if they need to be on there.
