You give him the car+driver weight, transmission type and gearing, stall converter speed and make, rear gearing, rear tire size, RPMs engine can take, all current engine mods, and the type of cam you want (solid, roller, etc) - the engineer/rep then tells you what cam their engineers recommend. I've bought MANY a special grind direct from the manufacturer - the cam came with the BASIC information. The only specs I was ever concerned with was solid lift cam gap settings.
