Got my first ticket today for my car. I was pulled over by highway patrol (in the city) initially for no front license plate and then he later issued me a ticket for my AAC Sidemarkers not being reflective during the day (Not sure why there needs to be reflectiveness in the day. And the lights are hella bright at night). So hopefully I can put the front plate on and stock sidemarkers back on and get them dismissed.. :/
But quick question: -What have you guys done about your front license plate? Any of you still taking chances on the front plate? Any of you not drill your plate in the front? He said that if I didn't fix it, the fine would be bigger the next time. |

I'll never drill a front plate into my car. A friend of mine got one of those remote hide-a-way plates for his Camaro and it works pretty good.

cool. I'm going to have to end up purchasing that lol! On my ticket, it said that I was missing corners in my sidemarkers and reflectivity. I'll probably purchase the showstopper sidemarkers, as they're reflective, but not sure what he meant by my sidemarkers were missing corners...
The no drill option looks like the best bet for safety reasons. For the hide-away option, do you have it up all the time? Maybe just put it down during meets or when parking at home? thanks a bunch guys |

I'm thinking of doing a hide away one and putting it up when I travel cities. Not legal :/ but eh. And yes, the sidemarker deal was indeed strange to me. It was about an hour long stop. He pulled me over, I rolled down my window nervously and said "Hi Officer". He didn't say anything and was just looking at my car for about a good 5 minutes. He said "come out here and look at this with me". So I got out, and looked at my rear marker. No one talked for a good 5 minutes, it was strange. He was just feeling the sidemarkers. Then he went on about how he said he doesn't like people who don't think about the safety of others (?), asked why I covered my reflectors with white tape (Didnt know what he meant. They were the AAC body colored ones), and told me how important it was for cars to see me at night by using reflectors. If cars shine their light at me at night, they can't see me if there's no light reflecting back. I just agreed and apologized for everything. He was an older officer and I tried to show as much respect as I could. I disagreed when he was saying I didn't care about safety as I always hate it when people are wreckless drivers and don't keep up with their cars. But I kept my mouth shut and took my ticket Oh yeah. And after pulling out of the parking lot from the cop, this paint-chipped impala pulled right in front of me without signaling and started going about 15 under. He had his loud bass rattling his car. I passed him... no front plate. (Looked like it fell off actually, screws still on, missing part of the front) The officer was still sitting in his car. What a horrible day. |

Wow....an hour long stop? When did this happen? Today? I'd call and complain to his supervisor. Find out who the supervisor is an call it in. Be nice and explain the entire situation and advise him that you don't understand how you can be cited for something that "works." Well....you can try that. Supervisor might say to talk to the Judge since he was not there. But, you can ask about length of stops...if the officer identified himself...why he stopped you in the first place, etc. But, the simple fact of the matter is that I'm 99.99999999999% sure the PAINTED Showstopper and AAC LED sidemarkers (again, I say painted) are not DOT legal and therefore, you can be cited for them. If they are not painted and are full blown orange/red (front/back), then you ARE FINE. Still, at night, they are bright as shit and you don't have to worry about reflectiveness. Right? Right...Duh...(not to you, but to the officer and Judge). That alone should be cause to drop the ticket. But, if you have painted them, then you have cut own approx 1/2 to 3/4 of the reflective area of the marker...which DOT standards say must be there. Therefore, his ticket is good (if they are painted or taped). You can always remove the tape (if there is any) and take pix and then show the Judge. See if that works. I hope that helps you out. |
