Silly thing here is that not having these updates designed for user installation is costing GM money in warranty time at dealers as opposed to having users do it themselves.
Net - making client self assist/update easy can improve customer satisfaction and avoid cost for GM...
The more electronics are in cars the more this makes sense

I pretty much gave up on this ever happening. While the metra kit isnt the best looking neither is the stock hvac/radio setup. im ripping the whole thing out in favor of a 7" touch screen and laptop in the trunk.

AhX - Keep us posted on your carputer. The more that I looked at carputers the more the thought that a laptop or netbook would make more sense.

I'm just going with a single DIN head unit for now. My primary reason was audio quality, a mute input and simple operation.

Once I get started I will try to make a nice writeup on exactly what I did. It is a major PITA and I am still in the gather parts stage.

How is not having the updates online costing GM money though warranties?

The updates are NOT covered under the warranty. Owners who want their car updated has to pay to have it done.

Not if they are having problems like many of us are. However, I have switched over to the the IPOD touch and all issues have resolved. Works perfectly now.

  • Allow users to register their vehicle and find any available updates and download them.
  • Forum for things like what's covered here in the Electronics forum
  • Have a list of compatable devices that have been tested.
But most of all we want this site to be a place for you, the customer, to get what you need from GM that we aren't providing you today. Post what you think would make a valuable site and any features that you would like to see implemented.

I don't know what the timeframe is for this site, but hopefully it'll have a quick turnaround. Thanks guys for hanging in there and supporting us as we get back to being focused on the customers.
Thanks Cody, and appreciate all of the support..

Yeah, it was awesome news back in January, but now we're all a bit bummed and don't think it's going to come to fruition... Oh well, it was a nice thought

If it follows the traditional GM trend it should be avail. sometime a few years from now... maybe... maybe not... well were not really sure... and if it is, it will only be avail. for owners of select 2015 model year vehicles that have chrome plated lumbar adjust switches.
