Anyone running a 390/40-17 M&H tires?

I have found multiple photos of 5th gens running these and asked in the tire forum but I’m hoping I can find someone near Eastern PA that has them on before I order mine to test fit. Thanks.

I'd love to see a photo of a 390 width rear tire on a 5th gen - share 'em up!

I run M&H slicks and when called before buying, the guy was very chatty so maybe a call to M&H...

It’s worth a call. Thank you.

CC what are your thoughts with this set up:

235/55-18 Firestone Indy 500
325/45-17 M&H DOT drag radial

Probably going to go with Welds F&R and bead locks on the rear.

I spoke with him today. I’ve finally made a decision as I want a tire very similar in height to what I’m running now:

235/60-18 (not sure what brand)
315/50-17 Mickey Thompson Street ET R

The MT seems to have better reviews than the M&H.

Glad to hear that, especially with reference to the fronts.... Too many people run skinnies and if/when these boats get sideways, you'll certainly want some meat up front....

Thanks for the share Blue13 - pretty tough looking on those fat tires. Has to be tight on the inboard side to not be poking more than that.

I don't see any reason that would not fit with the right offset, worst case a small spacer with longer studs, but you should not need spacers. I know a lot of people get squeamish about spacers, but there are a number of track guys that use them and they beat on their cars way harder than drag racers.

MT drag radials have a much better reputation at the track than M&H. I can't say I have seen anyone running M&H DRs, you see M&H slicks but not DRs.

How do you feel about having a radial up front with bias plys in the back? I've heard from several people that doing that can put you in the guard rail at the top end of the track if things get squirrelly.

I have used M&H radials, I was not impressed. Not awful, but not impressive.

Man, I think you want to be real careful with radials front and bias plys on the rear. Even with street radials up front and 275/40/20 drag radials inflated to normal street pressure in the rear, the car will yaw hard enough in a constant radius turn where it will upset the stability control and clamp on the outer front wheel to try to calm it down. With a bias ply in the back, that gets FAR worse. I've also raced with the same street fronts and 275/40/17 rears (more effective gear ratio) and that's sketchy as well - if the car starts to get away from you for whatever reason, you're not getting it back. I've got the body work to prove it.

The point is that the two tire types generate extremely different cornering response, and when you give the front axle more response and lateral grip that's a recipe to make yourself a passenger in a hurry. If you're willing to go far enough to run a bias ply rear, do yourself a favor and match it up front.

Track clip of mis-matched tires plus coolant down on the track getting the best of me:
