1st year reliability is Excellent!

I got my Consumer Reports magazine this week and was pleasantly surprised. They compiled enough survey data to rate the 2010 Camaro. Whatever you think of CR' subjective reviews, their reliability data is based on fact (owners submitting surveys). It was a good first year with no stand out reliability issues ! BRAVO CHEVY

They actually did recommend the Camaro, but hate the outward visibility, etc. It was recommended because of performance and this:

Name: camaroreliability6.jpg
Views: 486
Size: 207.2 KB

Name: camaroreliability8.jpg
Views: 492
Size: 207.3 KB

I'd love my Camaro even if the results were more like the Challenger's, but its nice to know the resale value will be helped by this. We'll see how the numbers hold up as the car ages.

I'm just wondering who are these manufacturers that are still making below "average" cars these days. You'd think everybody would've learned a bit about how the perception of quality affects sales in a major way.

Bravo for Gm.
That is Japanese level quality and my LS has been the best car I have ever owned.

That's good to see. I have no GM dealer backup over here.

Thanks to the OP for that interesting post.

I usually have problems with CU when they talk autos and these reliability charts are a perfect illustration why.

Note that the V-8 is rated the highest score, a full circle, in 16 of the 17 categories and yet the total score for new car prediction is only a half circle.....huh?

Then they summarize the predicted reliability as a used car as a half circle; "better than average"....16 of 17 is only better than average?

Maybe GM should change the name of the car to Camarota or Camaronda?

Cripes! CU should just stick to washing machines.

I have the same issues with CR.

It's really interesting to see their ratings on the Camaro. They're glowing over the car. How did they rate the same powertrains in other applications?

Their rating seems to usually follow this rank:

Toyota
Honda
Above Average
Average
Below average
Chevrolet

I think you missed it. Its 'predicted reliability'. It's not just based on one year. Note the crappy gen 4 reliability on the V8 chart. GM (and Ford and esp Chrysler) have been making crappy cars (reliability-wise) for so long that their reputation preceded them. It will take a few more successful launches to change that perception. Malibu, Camaro, Equinox and Cruz should really wake people up as to what GM is able to pull off. They've just about caught up to the Japanese, and have surpassed German reliability.

Glad to see it no problems on my 2LT for 11,000 miles now

I usually tend to stay away from CR as well though...

CR has always been bias towards imports IMO I remember them comming out on the early 2000's Hondas saying how great they were when we were watching them come in one after another on the hook across the street with blown trans'. So if they are rating the Camaro that high must mean its a hell of alot better
