Why does the leather feel so...cheap?

Excuse my ignorance on the matter, but...

to me, the seats just feel cheap. I don't believe they are real leather, correct?

My friend's 07 SS/SC Cobalt has leather that "feels" like it's a higher quality than the Camaro's, and I think he's said that it isn't real.

Thoughts?

The " seating areas" are " real " leather......The trim and sides are not.

Thats another reason why i went the 1SS route. Had no idea how the so called leather would hold up over time. Cloth just seems to look better years down the road.

reconditioning the leather seats brings them back to new condition... not a big deal IMO

The sides are probably not real leather because they are what takes the most abuse. How many Fbodies have you seen that didnt have the noticable spot on the side bolsters from getting in and out of the car. Maybe GM is trying to compensate for this..............dunno for sure just my thoughts.

Seems fine to me. It's a top grain hide and has a nice feel to it. The sides and back seats are vinyl though which is fine for wear and tear. The cloth seats were comfy too but I didn't like them as well as the leather.

The leather is very nice. Of course you have to take care of it, but that is part of the joy of caring for your baby. The 1SS package was great except I couldn't get leather. So I had to go 2SS. Cloth can stain too easy, absorb spills, etc. Just too many things can mess them up IMO.

You don't have leather seats. You have "Leather Appointed Surfaces".

Same as a Vette, a Caddilac.... Most cars haven't had full leather seats for probably over 20 years. Except the real expensive exotics like Bentleys.

If you like your cars affordable, the seats are not going to have a whole lot of leather. But I like mine. Put some good leather conditioner on them if you want them to feel softer. I use some stuff called Pinnacle, and it makes it look like fine Corinthian leather from gently raised corn fed heffers.

We all talked to Fbodfather when he was here in Utah and he told us that Jeans and Leather seats dont mix. Your jeans will wear down any leather fast especially the sides of your seats.

I love my leather seats and those wonderful seat warmers ..

My back seat are leather, why would they only put leather in front and not the back seats?

Yep, as well the armrest in the center is also not leather...

They do this to keep down cost and the leather is very thin..

We addressed this by using upgraded leather and full leather in our products...

I don't think the leather feels cheap at all. I really like it.

Off topic, but I just love the seat warmers (even down here in SW Florida). They heat up fast and get real hot. They work 100% better than the heated seats in my dad's Toyota 4Runner.
