Alternative to Pirelli P Zero Tires

My 2012 2SS RS L99 A6 has 20 inch P Zeros on it.
The car has about 5000 miles. I have put about 1000 of these on since I got it in Dec. last year.

In a nutshell, I think the P Zero tires are TERRIBLE.

They are horrible in the wet (no grip to speak of), and are only slightly better in the dry.

Yes, I know, where I live (Vancouver), we get our fair share of wet days and it is somewhat cold for several months. And the police describe my style of driving as "spirited".

But when I had my 2001 Camaro, I shod it with BFGoodrich KDW II tires.
They were VERY good in the wet, and VERY Good in the dry.

I am used to EXTREMELY good tires in the dry.... we race our 2007 Corvette, and we know what Hoosier A6 and Toyo R888 tires are like for EXTREME autocrossing. So I do know what I want and like.

Now I don't expect my Camaro daily driver to respond/react like the Corvette with its sticky tires, but I'd like it to at least respond as good as the 2001 did with the BFG KDWs.

So, sometime over the next few months, I am going to get rid of the P Zeros, and I want to get something that is comparable to the BFG KDW II.
If BFG made a KDW II in a size to fit the Camaro, I'd buy them in a heartbeat. But, as of right now, they don't.

So... what would you people recommend/suggest as a comparable alternative ? Your experiences would be appreciated.

If you like'd the KDW series you may want to try their new BFG Gforce Sport Comp2. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport is one of the VERY best.

Thanks Rudy.
I see that the BFG Sport Comp2 does have sizes equal to the stock sizes.

Actually I was hoping to go a little bit wider (1-2 cm) on front and back.
I know I can fit a little wider tire onto the stock rims.

The Michelin PS sure make a good variety of sizes.
Unfortunately your test info does not compare these 2 brands/models.
(Michelin PS and BFG Sport Comp 2).
But I see by their overall rating, the Michelin shows 7.68 versus the BFG 7.27

However we can show a comparison using your info...

BFG Sport Comp
Results based on 64 submissions of our online tire survey.

Surveyed Averages
1 100% 8.4 8.8 8.7 9.1 9.2 8.9 N/A N/A N/A 8.0 7.7 8.2 294,940

Michelin PS
Results based on 428 submissions of our online tire survey.

Surveyed Averages
1 100% 9.2 9.0 9.1 9.6 9.6 9.4 N/A N/A N/A 9.0 8.9 8.7 1,614,732

So it definitely appears that the Michelin has a customer approved advantage over the BFG.

My only negative about the Michelin is their price compared to the other brands. 275x35x20 Michelin is $348 and BFG is $189.

I guess I could also consider Vredestein Sessanta.
You obviously do not handle that brand.
The price of these for that size is $257.
Unfortunately I can't do a similar customer survey comparison to the brands we have discussed.

Hmmmmmm.... still pondering

I feel your pain with the Pirelli tires... Vredestein Sessanta will probably be my next purchase. I've read a lot of good things about those tires.

Another tire that I had considered was the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. I bought a set of Yokohama YK580 from Discount Tire for a 2008 Malibu. They have a very similar thread pattern compared to the Continentals. The only reason why I didn't go with the Conti is because they didn't have them in stock and the OEM Hankooks where getting dangerous in wet conditions with a lot of thread left!

Here is the link to the ExtremeContact DWS, if interested.. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....utoModClar=1SS

Also, FWIW, the INVOs in the 245/45/20 size does not meet the OEM tire weight rating of 103.. I want to say the INVO is like 99.

Forgot to mention... The Yokohamas have been a great tire on the Malibu.. Obviously, not an apples to apples comparison, but there are members on this board that have the ExtremeContact tires.

I had BFG Comp-2's on my L99 and loved them. Great in the rain. For the price you may want to give them a try this round.

Based on what you are stating in your original comments about what you like, do not by the BFG Comp2, they are horrible for the track or hard driving uses, they do not hold up well....I'm not the only one with that opinion, a guy at the event this weekend, left Saturday after using them in the event and went to buy a set of KDW's because he hated the Comp2's that bad.....on the other hand, I was also racing with Jordan from JDP Motorsports this weekend for 2 days and the Michelin's he was using barely looked touched after 2 days and he was in the top 5 in every event, so he hammered the Michelin's....

SPCBA, I need something which will handle rain, etc., too.

So I can't go with a "track" tire.

But thanks for your info.

WhiteSide refered me to the Michelins and I was on the fence( not fench ). Though it was extra I decided that Christmas came early. Now I am very happy with the purchase, I dont have the rims and tires yet. Although I am sure when I get them I can be reasured they work nice. I also spent a little extra @ JDP so now the waiting .

Thank you for the review!

there is a nitto that tries to balance the grip with weather capabilities. i dont think they do either extremely well. there are a lot of nitto fans here and i honestly dont know why. i think some swear they do everything 100% which just isnt possible.

people where i was at in the rocky mountains used the continental extreme contacts. not a tire that will bitch slap your wallet and had acceptable wet and snow/ice grip. did a few canyon carves in a buddies mustang in torrential down pour.

There are a lot of guys running them that say the Comp2's do well in the rain, no opinion on that, never drove them in the rain...so if that is the main purpose the tire might be fine for that application...

I know I saw a thread that I recall a number of guys were running a General branded tire, like A03 or something, can't remember the model # though, sorry. I'll see if I can search it for you later today.
