Yep, they're covered by warranty. PROVIDED you haven't added any performance modifications to the car to increase torque to the back wheels.

Can you describe the incident that caused this?

Are you implying adding a cold air intake would void the power train warranty?

The axles are warranty covered. My buddy snapped his racing at C5Fest and the dealership covered his no questions asked. The rear axles are rated up to 600 hp according to trusted GM Rep.

Cold air will not void warranty.

bring it in and see what happens. abuse usually isnt covered. now what GM thinks abuse is might be different than your version.

Just take it in, at the end of the day it is what it is. You should be good unless your dealer just wants to screw with you.

It's not in the dealer's best interest to deny a warranty repair. GM pays them for it. Now, on the other hand, GM might audit the repair and deny it. I don't see why this one should be denied though. GM put launch control on these cars for a reason.

Are you saying that you added a cold air intake and had the axle break?

I seriously doubt that would ever happen, as the +torque is small from a CAI. Modding a cold air intake will not void warranty, as it won't drive the torque so far above manufacturer's specs to snap the axle.

Then again... PROVIDED it didn't turn out any error codes that needed to be overridden and reset. If so, GM is going to have a field day, and good luck getting it paid for.
