Saw the ZL1 Convertible IN PERSON!

So, as some of you may know, I work for a Chevrolet dealer in West Palm Beach. This week is the Barrett-Jackson auction at the South Florida Fairgrounds down here, so GM shipped us like 30 cars to PDI and ship over for the show (Ride n Drive, display, etc). So this past Tuesday, we had to bring 15 of them out to the fairgrounds so they could start setting up the display. As I'm parking a Grand Sport that I got to drive over there, I notice a car carrier with a bunch of GM cars, so I get closer and I see this:
Attachment 355227 Much to my dismay, they wouldn't unload it for me to see any closer. I was told it was VIN C9100001 and that it would be auctioned for charity being that it's the 1st ZL1 production convertible. Long story longer, Thursday rolls around and I can't wait until 2:00 so I could head over for opening day at the auction. I walk in the front door and I see this: Attachment 355228 Attachment 355231 Attachment 355229 Attachment 355230 Then as I get closer...this: Attachment 355232 Attachment 355233 It's awesome. It's the same system as the 2013 Malibu (MyLink). Then I noticed something extremely wierd. The last 8 of the VIN were BXXXXXXX. For those of you unfamiliar with VIN decoding, "B" signifies it's a 2011 model ("C" would be 2012, "D" would be 2013). Not that important, but odd because that infotainment system isn't supposed to be out until 2013. Thought you all would enjoy. |
woah, very nice

Intersting photo thank you for posting! I did notice that the sterring wheel is with the suede option, along with the shifter knob. But the shifter boot is in leather and not suede interesting.
|
Yea, the boot was definitely leather. It works though...
Sitting in the thing was AMAZING. Transmission felt great. If any of you are in or around WPB, go down there and check it out. |
Do u think u will be able to purchase the nav unit as an OEM product and have it installed I the '12 ZL1
|
It seemed like it would fit, but I haven't heard anything about retro-fitting or backwards compatibility yet. Technically, the MyLink is VERY different than any other Nav system GM has used for many reasons...
1. It wasn't made by Delphi 2. It supports Bluetooth streaming audio WAAAAAY better than prior attempts 3. Bluetooth integration and voice recognition is handled in the radio rather than through OnStar's system With all that being said, I wouldn't bet that you would be able to put it in a 2012, but I've been wrong before... |
I am going to B-J tomorrow, are they allowing people to sit in the ZL1 vert?
|
Where does the disc go in that head unit?
|
Nice pics, thanks for posting!
