Z/28 Exhaust Inquiry

It's difficult to understand how (or why) the LS7 does not have H. Also, is the stock exhaust mandrel bent all the way out to the mufflers?

My Z/28 is stock but always felt the LS7 was meant for headers and full open mandrel bent pipes to the mufflers.

Are the Mufflers fairly open?

Which Cat-back and Headers are the most popular for the Z/28?

I want a little more sound -- 10-30 more horses.

My fuse is not pulled.

It does have an H pipe, its a small cross over, but it's there.

Yes the exhaust is mandrel bent all the way to the tips.

I can't say whether or not the mufflers are very open but I will say that with my headers and the exhaust flaps open, my car is pretty damned loud.... too loud for parking garages for example.

I can't answer about Cat-backs.... headers (no cats) and the rest of the stock cat-back are enough for me (actually too much since I like to keep the exhaust flaps closed much of the time, may end up putting cats or resonators in to quiet it down a bit).

If you want a little sound and power get a set of long tube headers and a X pipe. I was able to score a complete Z/28 exhaust for my 2010 SS, I also got a X pipe from C7 corvette just cut it down with a few inches on each side an have it welded in.
Now I know mines only a LS3 but the car sounds amazing with the long tubes Z system and the C7 X pipe.

I meant to say after have (Exclude the letter H): a complete flow thru design exhaust.

Alright so the exhaust pipes are not crushed in certain areas like other Camaros -- good news. I should leave the cats to keep the noise down and I don't want that funky sickly exhaust smell and headers is probably the one (and only) thing I need.

For my liking yeah. If I put any louder mufflers on it, then it would be way too loud with the flaps open (for driving comfort anyways).

And I would do the cats to keep the smell down (it may quiet the exhaust enough to the point where you want louder mufflers, though).

As for the Mandrel bends, I would have been SHOCKED if a car of this performance caliber and MSRP would have come with crush-bent pipes, hell even my 1994 ranger had mandrel bends from the factory.

So the only thing to change is Headers?

Keep all the rest stock?

I went with the ARH Long System with cats and kept the stock
rear mufflers. The plan was to improve performance and sound,
and still have the flexibility of the NPP exhaust. I had the fuse
pulled for over 4 years, but I always knew down the road I
want to get ARH or Kooks Headers.
I am very happy with the ARH system, makes me love the car
even more.

American Racing Long Tubes or Short Tubes, what's the difference?

Any other Recommended Mods for 10-30 more Horses?

Perhaps a Ram Air system?

Did you guys go with a local tuner or buy direct from American Racing?

1) Long tubes/mid pipes/tune will net you about 30.
2) The car already has short tube style headers

3) Ram air? The car also has a great intake, in factory trim. Whatever you replace it with will net you almost nothing, for a lot of money.

4) find a good tuner.
