The PS3 is totally worth it, like everyone else has pretty much said. All of the exclusive games are amazing as well. You owe it to yourself to buy Metal Gear Solid 4, Infamous, etc. MGS4 is without a doubt one of the best games I've ever played.
And if you don't get big into actually playing it, its also got the Blu-ray as well so you can just watch movies with it. I dunno, your call in the end. I would probably just buy a blu-ray player if you are only going to play the games 5 hours a month. |

I have a PS3 and a XBOX 360.
I do game a lot but haven't found many PS3 games I was interested in. I used the PS3 exclusively for blu-ray. Everything else including netflix uses the 360. The PS3 is totally worth it for blu-ray and netflix if thats what you're looking for though...

My Xbox froze the first night I had it, and I've had the red ring of death twice since last christmas which always ends up having it getting fixed for a week or two. Since then I just play my PS3 and Wii, whats the point of using something that breaks all the time :(. |

i'm not saying the 360 doesn't have problems, because i know that's not true. PS3 also isn't immune to problems, and have been known to overheat at times.
but i've had the same XBOX 360 since june/july 2006, and i haven't had a problem with it, not a one. it still runs just as strong today as it did the first time i booted it up. the one time my xbox froze was my own fault, it was on a night table tucked underneath my desk, pushed all the way back. in other words, it had NO room to vent, normally i slide the table out when i play, forgot to that time. neither machine has a perfect track record

so your ps3 froze one time, but didn't need to be fixed.

My PS3 had a faulty laser recently (it was the old 80 gb version) and I have sent it to get fix here in Raleigh since my warranty had just run out a week before hand. Other than that I had no issues with my PS3 (I'm just waiting to get it back now).

PS3 is by far the best blu ray player available as it has the most user friendly interface for dealing with firmware updates. As Java and Blu ray have advanced in technology early adopters are finding out that not only is the stand alone player they bought for $1000 now missing capabilities like HDMI 1.3, and the ability to decode different new audio codecs like DTS-MA for example, but also in some cases those early players are basicallly obsolete and wont even play the newer discs wtih more advanced java programming.
On the other hand PS3 will always be simple to update to handle the new advancements in blu ray technology. |
