5th picture down.. could be scoring, but looks like a slag bubble to me.. something that formed in the steel as it cooled.. not a metalurgist, but that is what it looks like to me.

Did they happen to give out the limits on the hardness specs?

What do you mean? Early production like early VIN? Mine is fairly early, 32xxx. And I had a very early set of 4.10s fail.

GM in they're infinite wisdom eliminated the strap in later production cars. This lead me to look for stronger main caps and came up with Billet Caps that we machine to fit each housing we do. The Teeth on the Richmonds are Shattering like Glass, they aren't bending or rolling over. In my opinion they are Too Hard. Ted.

When I sent mine back, Richmond supposedly tested them and said the gears were fine and fought me on the refund. They finally refunded my money only when I asked for my gear set back to have independently test. That was the only fishy part. Seems they didn't want me to get my gears back. I gave them the option, return gears that were rightfully mine OR refund me. They chose the later. So what was the cut off VIN? What would my car have strap or no strap? I am 32xxx? I really want taller gears in my car but am scared of Richmonds. I looked into the LPE ones but they are even more pricey than Richmonds! |
