Best way to actually compare weights between manufactures is to see what they state for curb weight. That way, you don't run into a no-option car being weighed with 1/8th of a tank a then compared against another loaded car with a full tank. Simplifies things so much.

Curb weight for the 2011 GT500 is 3820 lbs.

Looks like the competition is getting tougher!

Just came across this on autoblog. Looks like the 2011 Challenger is getting a boost across the HP lineup with the SRT now pumping out 475hp 460tq. Come on Chevy! We need that Z28!

It's cool to see Dodge use cubic inch call outs instead of litres. 392 sounds so much cooler than 6.4L. If GM didn't have such cool engine codes like "LS3", I would love to see "376" badges.

You definately don't need the Z28 to compete with a 475hp Challenger.

The Challenger is a very heavy car. That increase in HP will "probably - I'm still not convinced" bring it up to Mustang GT and Camaro SS straight line performance.

GM just needs to bump the power up a few ponies on the SS to take car of both the Mustang GT and the up coming Challenger.

The Z28 is to compete with the big boys. The Z28 will make at least 550 hp and weigh considerably less than the Challenger. There's no competition there. The Competition is the GT500 for the Z28.

Folks I think we're in for a surprise here. True the 6.4 HEMI isnt all that much more powerful than the 6.1, but the there is the 8 speed ZF transmission, as well as a few more yet to be known features. Ralph Gilles reportedly said the new SRT8 will do the 0-60 in under 4 seconds. Also, they wouldnt list it as competing with the GT500 if it couldnt.

They also want to make the new Jeep SRT8, which also packs the 6.4, the fastest SUV in the world! It was spotted testing with the X5 M, which is faster thant our SS's.

If we ever needed a Z28, now's the time more than ever.

49 hp difference is not gonna make up for the 330 lb weight difference between a SS and a SRT-8. plus that ad said 245/45ZR20 tires, on inch less of traction on each side... more horse power less traction, great idea....

I wonder if that isn't a staggered wheel with the 245's up front and something else out back. When I look up the SS or GT500 the front wheel size is shown but we all know out back there is thicker rubber.

I'd be all for the 392 Hemi if I could afford it. But at that price, I might as well buy a 1971 cuda with a 340 and swap it for a new 426 crate engine I mean I'd probably spend like 5-10k more for that setup and it'd be way more kickass You may ask, why not a 1970 cuda? Well I'd really like one of those, but you pay a premium for that model year over all others. If I had a ton of money, I'd just buy a 1970 440+6 or 426

well, depending on how dodge engineered the 392, it now has the most potential.

ok so the LS3 dynoed 480hp on an engine dyno with offroad tune, and long tube headers. i bet the 392 exceeds 500hp with the same setup. the 392 is the new N/A hp king.

nobody can have it both ways. if cubes rule, then they rule. if torque is king, then it is. dodge makes more of both. my little 5.0 cant compete with 392.

If this is the real numbers ,it is a major fail for dodge. The srt-8 is the GT500's competition not the SS camaro. I don't really know what every one is hyped up about. The R/T is the SS competitor, and we have that covered pretty easy. And if these are the right #numbers for the srt8 then the z/28 will blow the doors off of it. Chrysler doesn't make any sense to me doing what there doing. To bring out a larger motor and only add 50hp over the old one is a major fail. They need to get into the game or just stay clear.
It's a shame because it's the best looking car of the three.

The curb weight of the SRT8 is 4140lbs, thus the difference between the SS and SRT8 is 290lbs. The difference is more skewed in favor of the 475HP SRT8 if you compare against the 400HP L99. The new SRT8 will have the power edge over the SS and GT, unless GM and Ford counter in the same year.

SRT8 HP vs Wt = 8.69
SS LS3 HP vs Wt = 9.04
GT HP vs Wt = 8.75

You guys act like a Challenger RT is a joke, Id bet most of you would get walked by a seasoned driver in a Challenger RT vs a 2010 SS stock for stock.

50 hp is more than enough to make up for 300lbs. Quit living in fantasy land.
