Friday after work took the Camaro and got her washed, ready for the weekend! Had to run a few errands..

Stop 1 I park almost as far away by myself as possible. Stop 2.. same thing park far as possible away. Then I drive to go hang with my buddies who havnt seen the car yet, they come out checkin out the car and one goes "hey when did this happen"...

My heart sank as I ran around to see a white streak across my front fender about 8 inches long.. had to be a shopping cart! The crappy thing is I parked so far away from everything somone would have to go pretty far out of there way to do what they did.. FORTUNATLEY I have a 3m clear bra on most of the rubber/paint crap came off but it smudged the clear bra a bit.

Why can't people be either more respectful of other peoples stuff

Could have been a run away shopping cart. I see them every so often, even when the wind isn't really "strong" so to speak. =/

This is exactly why i DONT park like that. To me, parking like that just screams "I'm better than you" and people have to f*ck with it. I park like everyone else and have not had one single door ding in the year that i've had my car.

No, parking across 2 spots screams "I'm better than you", parking far away just says "I worked hard to buy this nice, new car, and I intend to keep it that way. It's a shame, these jealousy threads seem to be popping up every day.

Lame! Stories like these remind me of when I got my brand new '04 WRX back in '03. I kept that car as clean as I could. Even though I took care of her, it had at least 7 door dings between the two sides by the time I traded it in for my Outback last August.

My plan is to take the Camaro to and from work when needed, otherwise it will be in the garage or it will be going on nice long drives (where it will most likely get chipped by flying rocks). C'est la vie.

I don't think it's a jealousy thing - I think people are just lazy and don't care.

Exactly....

and I will be honest, before the Camaro..I was someone who thought the same thing. I would NEVER take an action like that because I respect people's property. However, when I saw a mustang or Z parked out in BFE, I always kinda chuckled and thought to myself "is this guy serious?"

I try to find a spot next to a curb so I have ONE side covered and I park as close to that curb as possible. I make sure I do it CLOSE to the group so my car blends in. A new camaro (which alot of people haven't seen yet) parked that far away sticks out like a sore thumb and you will have people deliberately messing with it.

They both scream I am better than you. My car is better than yours. Otherwise you would park in the group as well. The camaro is not an expensive car. I personally like my car more than anything else on the road right now excluding the ZR1. However, other people do not see that way. I was in a restaurant and actually watched a chick..AIM..and PUSH her cart in the direction of a Mustang because it was all by it self. I was in utter disbelieve. Save the mustang jokes, this was another american muscle car targeted by some stupid lil rice loving b---- who hated american muscle. A LOT of people do. People are stupid...they will take both situations in a jealous manner. If someone takes up 2-3 spots, then just accept the fact you will have your car keyed eventually.

I do, however, think Lady is right as well. A lot of people are just too lazy to walk the cart to the stand and will just let the cart glide across the parking lot.

The local grocery store I frequent has the cart corral then an empty space then a curb. I try to park there when I can, when I get the Camaro, I definately will be trying for that spot. You could always pull a George Burns and carry some traffic cones with you and place them on the empty spots on either side of you!!

Well, maybe some will see it that way, but the reason I see it as I posted is simple. Parking across more than one spot inconveniences others. That is saying, "I'm so much better than you I deserved an extra space or 2, so now there are a few less spaces in the lot to protect MY car." I would never mess with anyone's car who chooses to do so, yet I don't feel as bad for people that park like this when they do get keyed.

Parking far away inconveniences noone but yourself. Yeah, maybe some miserable, self conscious, losers will have to mess with it out of jealousy, but my point is still that it is not saying I'm better than you or my car is better than yours, its only saying I'm willing to walk a few extra steps in order to prevent a door ding.

And, there is a Target in my area that has brake equipped carts where once you get too far from the store, the brakes activate to prevent theft!
