My cousin had an early 80's firebird with an "off the shelf" 3000 lockup stall and the car was hard to drive around town because the car could hardly move without flooring it and burned lots of gas. At first he warned me not to buy a stall but when he drove my car recently he was amazed at how the car performed on the street and the great throttle response for such a high stall. FTI FTW!

11's or low 12's would be nice! I do have some small DR's that were used on my old mustang that I may try it out but my front tires will be taller than the rear.... I think the nitrous camaros will still have the crown though because their powerband is way better than the turboed powerbands I have seen for our car. The nitrous cars that spray off the line will have way more torque off the line unless I can launch at 4000+rpm. I have a feeling that I'll run mid to high 12's or maybe even a low 13. We shall see...
Well thats great about the MTI stall!
And either way, running high 12s low 13s will give the stock SSs at the track something to think about

It's not that you are running at higher RPMs... it's that you are starting out at a higher RPM, when you take off from a stop. You really aren't making your engine work harder, so i wouldn't worry about breaking your engine... You will probably be putting a little more stress on the driveline parts, but I wouldn't worry about that... unless you start running slicks...

Trick question.. Let me think about that for a few..

Ever since I started using the FTI converter, my car has been even MORE dead on consistent! 11.50 Index Track Champion 3 times now at Englishtown!!

The track is closed today due to bad weather but will be open tomorrow and Sunday. I'll try to get some times tomorrow!

YO-EL, are you running pro-stock with your vette?

The only issue I ever had with stall convertors is the loss of torque multiplication.

I used them in the past because of camming. Only way I could idle in gear. Loading to 3000 or so, depending on stall, with foot on brake would help launch if you had enough traction.

On average with the V8 GM lockups we see .5-.8 tenths reduction in 1/4 mile times. On the V6 .3-.5 tenths. Not many mods can give this and still drive near normal.

Remeber, all converters are NOT alike.

I managed to make it to the track today but I just missed tech by 30 minutes, so while leaving the track at its exit The richmond stig and I made this video: (Props to Tracy!)
