So is there a filter available that doesn't require oil? I always hated that about K&N. I see CAI requires oil during the cleaning process.

Our CAI does use an oiled filter, but you can purchase a new filter when it comes time for replacement and not worry about oiling it yourself. Let me know what your concerns are and I am sure I can help you. Also, check out these 2 helpful articles regarding oiled filters at the following links:

SO the Fastlane Pipeline was pretty close competition to the CAI brand? I kow the IAT went up a little with the Fastlane.

I'm wondering I buy some heat shield wrap and wrap the tubing or have it Ceramic coated, if it would keep the IAT down to a minimum?

Also, everything I have read says you DO NOT have to tune the car with the Pipeline. Is this accurate?

Just the Opposite, the Pipeline needs a Custom Tune.

Ted, thank you very much for the work (and time) you put in on this. I am starting to get spring fever, and have been looking at the various options out there for a cold air solution. I have found that depending on the site / person, you will get different answers (with little to no support for the opinion given).

Seeing this post not only helped me make my decision, it also helped me decide to join this forum.....which will probably result in me spending a crapload more money than I wanted to :-)

Your thoughts for insulating the Intake Air from the heat of the engine bay is a good idea. If you want a CAI with those features already incorporated, our CAI's come with intake tubes that are ceramic coated inside and out and our enclosed airbox has an insulation barrier. We make cold air intakes designed to do what they are supposed to right out of the box, without you having to further modify the design for it to make proper sense. The whole point of a CAI is the keep the air moving cooler, faster and cleaner, which is what we design our systems to do. Let me know if you have any questions, I would be happy to help!

As I PM'd you, the problem is NOT the IAT's going up.

The problem is the IAT Sensor getting heat soaked.

I solved the problem by relocating the sensor to the intake filter. 7* above ambient always.

I did pretty well without a tune. When we looked at it on the dyno, it was fine (AFRs were safe). The tune helped, of course, just <10hp peak and with better power under the curve.

Except that he's wrong about the need to insulate the Fastlane. As I just said, relocating the IAT sensor is the only thing that is optional.
