Will an OBD readout show a tune? I'm thinking if you went the route i.e. LT, hi flow cats, cam, tune and restored to stock you still won't pass smog since the OBD readout will flash the tune. There will be a lot of Camaros going the Non Op route and chancing it.

When it comes to the tailpipe test, does the acetone in the gas trick still work, or is that strictly and older technology thing?

...oh, and why do you guys continue to live in California and put up with this crap?

OK, you might have me there. I'd still rather drive what I want for 7 mo a year, than what the state of California allows year round, though.

It is a shame here for sure, that even though your car is modded, runs good, doesn't really pollute any worse than stock, it can still "fail"...lol

Its sad. Cars are an important part of Californian culture past and present. They would have us all riding bikes if they could.
The laws implemented to fix the smog worked... They just keep going further and further. If you were in so cal in 80's or early 90's and rememeber smog danger threat days you could understand some of the bullshit laws. I remember having smog days in school where they wouldn't let kids outside.

It is overblown...heck they even have smog checks for diesels now...they open hood and say yup. I swear there most be a smog checkers union or someone's brother in law owns a bunch of smog check stations
