Don't you still have to install headers from underneath on a 5th gen?

LOL!For some reason after reading through the posts I was thinking that there was room to slide them in from the top. I have never installed headers myself but watched a youtube video where they installed them from the bottom. Doesn't look hard at all.

It's okay, you guys have answered my question and now I know I can do them myself.

Thanks for all the help.

Jim

Use the stock manifold bolts and new Chevy Gaskets . Go back in a week and check the bolts cold ,and retighten if needed.

Something. Guys working at the track always say, "man, that car sounds good" then are blown away when I tell them the exhaust is stock. Of course now with the headers and cats its louder. Doh! Anyway, we all have the same cars. Either I got freakishly lucky or the fact that I broke it in per the manual instructions is paying off. When's your next track day? I'm thinking next year for me unless this collar bone heals more quickly.

Can't be 100% sure though as I am still mostly stock, but reading and researching a lot for future plans on mine.

I bet long headers will be 1200-1500 plus 6-8 hours to install. So $1900-$2500. My shorties were $600 ceramic coated titanium + $1K to install. I had installation quotes from $750 to $1250 across three vendors.

If you can ( and I know you can ) install them yourself you will save some $$$$ ,it is simple and easy to install long tubes on a 5th gen .4th gen is harder and 3rd get is a real pain in the A$$.

I had a third gen 1984 z28. Changing the spark plugs requires dropping the motor from the mounts and suspending it on a jack stand. Hated that and all those old school belts!

I didn't do my own headers for two reasons. 1-no lift and I didn't want to dick around on the ground without the car being somewhat high off the ground. 2-broken collarbone and i can't swing a wrench right now if you paid me.

That's a bet you would loose. 2.5 to 3 hours is all it would take someone with some mechanical skill on a 5th gen , it is that easy . $700.00 landed for Stainless Power long tubes with HF cats . A fair price to install them would be $200.00 to $250.00.

I got LT install quotes from $300-$350 and took the installer 1.5 hours. $711 for Stainless Power Headers and Cats as GONIF mentioned and $1000 later I have longtube and cats on my car.

Thanks for the input. This is what I want to do. Then throw in 200 to400 for a good dyno tune and I'm there.
