Closed box set up handle heat very well but you lose the turbo sound.
Prior to making this open box set up i used the filter alone and remove the box. Well it sounded great but I noticed that temp would go up very fast in traffic stop and go type situations. That why i decided to mimic my own version of GM 's insulated open box setup. I made sure to perfectly seal off the hot air from engine compartment. Needless to say i do not have any issue with temps going up at stop an go traffic anymore and getting similar performance as the closed box set up but with the turbo noise which was my main reason for this project at the first place..

Nice man! good for you! I wish I had the time and the expertise to make one myself. I wonder if Injen would sell just the open box containment unit. I really loved just the filter too but you're right. My temps went up in stop and go too.

Nice job man! Another way to go at this might be purchasing the Mishimoto intake tube and going from there (was considering this myself)
