My mistake. you were saying they gave you a larger shaft than you had originally, that doesn't make sense. One side needs to be bigger than the other.

my friend ; if the dealer told you that he put you a bigger shaft on the right side,it is bs because originaly the original right shaft IS CURENTLY BIGGER OF ½ INCHES, HE PUT YOU THE SAME SIZE OF ORIGINAL SHAFT
the right shaft broke at the most fragil location on the axle TRIPOIDE GEAR OVER THE SPLIND |

THE PROBLEM with the right axel shaft is NOT the size of the shaft himshelf
BUT THE GEAR WITH THE BALL BEARING WHO BROKE(CRACK) AT THE MOST FRAGIL LOCATION JUST BETWEEN THE HOLE RECEIVING ONE OF THE 6 BALL AND THE SPLIND GROVE OF THE SPROKET THE SHAFT HIMSHELF DID NOT BROKE,BUT SPIN INSIDE THE TRIPOIDE IS THAT MORE CLEAR |

Constant Velocity joint. It is similar to a u-joint (universal joint) but is covered with a boot full of grease - at least that is the most obvious difference. Allows a constant velocity in and out regardless of the angle, whereas a u-joint does not.

just to add, the CV joints on the Camaro (and most cars) are located on the axle shafts that run from the differential to the wheels This is an axle shaft. The CV joints are the parts covered in the black rubber boots as rayhawk said This is a CV joint |

That looks more like a tripoide to me.

FYI, broken half shafts are usually a result of wheel hop. Did you guys get wheel hop and then not let off the throttle?
I own a Cobra and it's EASIER to break a half shaft on stock tires than it is on sticky ones. I've gone 10s with my STOCK IRS, but I know people who have broken half shafts running 12s at stock power levels because of wheel hop. It doesn't matter how strong the IRS is, in cars that weigh 3600-3900lbs you will break stuff with even a little wheelhop. My suggestion is you guys look into aftermarket bushings and some sticky tires to avoid it all together. |
