Just happened earlier shifting from 3, 4 to 5 (grind), N, 5 again.
My approach will be to discuss with my performance mechanic.
Word of advice don't deal with day to day mechanics at a GM dealership. These vehicles are high performance race cars that are tuned to run like street vehicles. Do yourself a favour and find good performance installer in your area and have them tune the vehicle the way you like it.
My installer has a Camaro SS they work on regularily and have done hundreds of tunes on it, with varying combinations of aftermarket parts. I drove their car and shifting gears are smooth like butter (stock).
My opinion is there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, it's the vehicle's tuning from the manufacturer that's the problem.
But how can tuning affect a M6 manual trans? There's nothing to tune on a manual.

Was wondering the same thing...

Even if the shifting problem magically disappeared there are still 1500 other problems that have to be dealt with. If work hadn't been so crazy I probably would be falling under the lemon law.

OMG you've gone to the DARK side! LOL! Sorry to hear that you've had enough of the Camaro problems to move you to trade in. It really sucks to be dissapointed in something that you put high hopes into and a lot of cash! It looks like you've had a GT-500 in the past so I'm sure it wasn't too tough a decision to make. From the reviews of the 2011 GT-500, there's a world of difference from past years! Good luck with your new ride bro!

Oh, and lets us all know how the shifting is in the GT, I think it also has the Tremec 6060!

Hehe, yeah. The dark side had cookies!!!!!

I know others haven't had the issues I have or have had few ones but it seemed like my car took all the separate problems and rolled them into one and Satan was playing a mean joke on me. I did have high hopes for the Camaro, it was my first new car in my life.

With that said, I don't think the Camaro is a POS or a bad car but I do think mine is. So no hate for the bowtie family from the blue oval family.

I'll keep you posted. I know for certain my 07 GT500 had the Tremec 6060 which is part of the reason I was so frustrated with the Camaro... I know the transmission can work smoothly.

I'm actually getting a used 2010 GT500 not a 2011. I can't afford the extra 13-14k for a 2011 w/ SVTPP over what a 2010 costs. I wish I could but realistically, as nice as the aluminum block is on the '11... I'm not going to throw down coin on races or pinks so I opted for the slightly more sensible choice, the 2010. Now one could debate the overall sensibility of a GT500 over a GT... but whatev

Make sure you drive your GT500 first and do a 6000 rpm shift. Not a power shift just a very fast one. The Shelby has the same 1-2 shift problem.

Its funny if Ford Cant make my 2011 Shelby shift better I was thinking the exact opposite of you and getting a Z-28 or whatever it will be called. I really love my car and for me, I fit in it so much better than the Camaro, but it sure sucks not being able to get a 1-2 shift that is smooth and fast without a grind.

That WAS interesting! The best quote in that thread was this...

"really good info. thank you.

I will try and see the outcome.
for now though I will stick to carrying around the latest issue of car&driver magazine so that I can catch up on my favorite articles in between shifts. Also I use the time I have to wait in between shifts to catch up with my wife. We both have very busy work schedules and its difficult to get together and have a meaningful conversation, but now thanks to my s197 shifting issue we have all the time in the world."

LOL!!!

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself

I was actually thinking that the camaro might be suffering from the same issues as the s197. Having remotely mounted shifter causes issues often fixed with torque limiters... Is camaro's shifter remotely mounted as well?

I want to say it does because it's not connected directly to the transmission but rather to the console. As far as the shifting issues I haven't had any problems at all. It sucks to see some of you are experiencing them. :(

Don't know much about the torque limiters mentioned, I assume it limits movement of the engine/trans, keeping the linkage from contacting/binding???

Regardless, don't think that's what it wrong with mine. I can duplicate my issue with a fast 1-2 shift in the 2,000 to 4,000 rpm range, part throttle. Would be very minimal torque loading on the drive train in that situation... Still think it's a synchro, or internal linkage/fork issue. Just driving it now, waiting for it to break for good..

OK, I have to be the devil's advocate here...

If the problem is solved by torque limiters (to a degree) because the shifter is remote mounted... then why is second gear the only gear with trouble?

So like many of you my second gear is ''fussy''. I have grinded it too many times. I notice when I have more than 1 passenger in the car it is more likely to happen. Now I am scared eventually my synchros would be f*cked or I lose my second gear entirely. Does anyone know how much abuse a gear can actually take? I have grinded it at least 5 times in 7000kms (4375 miles). And in the eventuality that my gear/synchros decide to die would it be covered in the warranty? Or will they blame me for driving badly? Thanks for any input

Got the GT500 yesterday. banged off a few high RPM shifts and there wasn't a single issue. Maybe I am lucky. Either way, I'll take it. So many problems just disappeared (for me) when I traded in the Camaro.

Very happy with my trade.
