Blown LS3 Blew
This is what happened with a stock LS3 with a conservative tune. Rod and piston right threw the block. it happend down shifting from 6th to 4th @ 70mph to pass someone. 32k 0n the SC
600hp to crank 520rwhp rev limit set @ 5600rpms Now I have an excuse to rebuild....... |

You just never know with boosted motors and a stock bottom end. There are so many variables...
The bright side is you get to build the bottom the way you want it. |

Nice...LOL.. That is the worst case scenario although it seems to be real common these days.. ..losing the whole block.
We talked... ( THe OP called me) one thing to say here... Bearing gaps are different for a boosted motor than a naturally aspirated one. The metals swell under boost more than a regular engine does... with a tighter bearing gap this cuts the flow of oil... eventually it seizes and then breaks.... Hard to say what made this engine come apart from just a phone call so I cant be sure of course unless we had the parts to examine and say for sure... If there is blueing then it was heat Hopefully the head is still OK. This is why is say it's not a matter of can it be done but for how long it will last. Naturally aspirated motors are built different than boosted engines and it not just the piston and ring material and compression. If we are lucky to get your business then we will provide you with a proper engine that is built correctly for the application. Our/HKE's reputation is second to none. |
