Fbodfather: Stripe / Exposed Weave CF Questions Before I Order

I’d like to know the implications of the stripe / exposed weave carbon fiber hood before ordering.

-Can the exposed weave carbon fiber hood be ordered with the stripe?
-If the exposed weave carbon fiber hood and stripe package are ordered together is the CF covered by the stripe? (I assume no) Is the stripe still black?
-Is the stripe vinyl?
-What special care is required for the black carbon fiber painted hood?

The answer to the last two at least I'm certain the last one. It's painted satin black, you will need special wax, just like the Frozen Black and Frozen Gray M3's require if you want to maintain it. Would like to have some confirmation on this though.

I am also confused by the two choices on the CF insert. Is the standard one shiny and is the optional exposed weave CF a dull flat black? What kind of wax are you supposed to use on the standard one? I am leaning toward getting the optional exposed weave CF just so I won't have to do the unique care on standard that the dealer reference guide notes. Would love to hear from fbodfather on this.

My understanding is that the STANDARD CF insert will be painted Satin Black and requires special care. No CF weave will be seen. The OPTIONAL CF insert will have the CF weave exposed and it will have a clear coat paint over it, most likely the same as used on the ZR1 Corvette. It will NOT require special care and can be waxed with the rest of the car. Look at a ZR1 roof to get the best idea of what the exposed CF insert will look like.

Stripe has been shown over roof and rear with the satin black hood insert.

I would guess there are three (or four?) basic combinations available:

1. Hood Satin Black with stripes over roof & rear
2. Hood exposed CF with stripes over roof & rear
3. Hood exposed CF without stripes
4. (maybe) Hood Satin Black without stripes over roof & rear.

I think you are right with the exception of number 2. Unless they offer some faux carbon fiber vinyl stripe as was rumored, I think if you get the exposed carbon fiber insert you will not have an option for a stripe. A carbon fiber insert with a black vinyl roof and trunk lid stripe would look odd IMO and I doubt it would be offered that way.

Maybe, but even with the exposed CF hood the spoiler, rockers and rear diffuser will be satin black. A satin black vinyl strip might not be so out of place.

Hi all - -

I wanted to be SURE that I got this straight -- so I went to Cheryl - and she writes:



"....The exposed weave carbon fiber hood insert can be ordered with the available stripe package. The stripe color becomes "dark gray" when the exposed carbon fiber weave hood insert is also ordered. The stripe package includes a single stripe that travels across the roof, decklid and spoiler.

The stripe is a decal (vinyl), not painted.

Details will be included in the owner's manual on the care of the standard black--painted carbon fiber hood insert. It is a low gloss finish and will require special care......."


One other note: A couple of people have asked me if the Sueded Seats are standard as there was some confusion about Page 18 in the guide that mysteriously appeared on this forum.

It reads: "Inteior" -- "sueded microfiber interior package - steering wheel, shift knob, and shift boot"..........

The Sueded Seats are standard - you can get an option to provide the microfiber on the steering wheel, shift knob, and shift boot at extra cost if you so desire.....

I was set against the exposed weave because I wanted the stripe. Knowing the stripe is gray with the CF throws a wrench into my plans. I don’t suppose there are any pictures of the exposed carbon / stripe? (with IOM paint?) Or even an idea of the gray color?

Also, is the gray stripe still matte in sheen?

As for the stripe package, I'm thinking I might make my own depending on the pattern of the weave on the insert....
