6/14/2011 - 1 year ago my wife and I lost our best friend, Soprano, the best dog anyone could ask for. While the pain has subsided it will never go away, there will always be a BIG hole in my heart! Not a day goes by we don't think about him or talk to him, knowing we'll meet again one day is what keeps me going. We miss and love you so much Soprano! You may be gone but you'll NEVER be forgotten!!

im sorry to hear this...i cant stand bare to have a best friend like that die..i can watch any human die and it wont bother me but when it comws to an animal....im soft..god bless

nyrfan.... truely know how you feel.....I have had to deal with this 3 different time over the coruse of my life....and its taken at least a year before I was able to bring another furry child into my life.....but it was worth it. Here is something that I have framed at the house, and I know some of the dog lovers here will recognize it......

The RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Man, I'm sorry to read this. It makes me fearful of the day my Chocolate Lab passes on.

Here's some pics of my best friend:

He LOVES playing at the beach. You can throw his toy 50 meters out into the ocean and he will swim out to retrieve it, waves and all. He is my protector and my best friend. I have a TBI and PTSD from Iraq. Although not specifically trained as a companion dog, he acts like one. In public places where I get nervous, he walks tight up to my right side and has this intense look on his face as if he's scrutinizing every single person around me. He is a VERY intense dog!

Cooper is 18 months old, weighs in at 92lbs and is the smartest, most loving dog we have ever had. He dwarfs my 5' tall wife when he stands on his rear legs and he is highly protective of her as well.

Knowing/feeling all of this about my Cooper allows me to deeply empathize with you. I am so sorry you have lost your buddy and I can only pray that you will find not a replacement, but a new friend who brings joy into your life the same way Soprano did.

The feeling sucks bad. I lived with a girl for 2 years and we got a puppy together and we ended up breaking up and she moved to baltimore, so ill never see that little girl again.

I've been there many of times. It's never easy and never fun. I am able to cope (as well as anyone can) by remembering the good times, car rides, and how happy they were. I always give them whatever they want to eat as their last meal too. I have loved each and every single one, but I lost one last year that I was extremely close to. She hung on me everywhere I went and was always by my side.

I get upset still.

Ah yea that poem I know all too well Sir Nuke. Thanks for sharing for those who have never seen or read it.

I don't blame you. Animals are the only creatures that really love you unconditionally. Can't say that about humans.

I understand. Just got a new dog for the first time since I was a young child. After my family lost that dog, I wasn't sure if I ever wanted another. But my wife and I love our new puppy, he's 12 weeks now! That feisty age, you know? You can never forget a good dog.

Believe me it never gets any easier losing part of the family. In the 28 years I have been married we have lost four dogs; Flash, Brandon, Trina and Buddy. Another , Cody does not have long. The cancer is getting worse, but he still gives us kisses and seems happy most of the time.There will be lots of friends waiting on Rainbow Bridge for us.
