I noticed today a very weird noise in my 2SS LS3. When accelerating there is noise that sounds like some kind of rapid clicking. (almost like rice krispies fresh in milk...) Does not do it at neutral. It almost sounds like it is coming for the speakers but it's just too hard to tell. Occurs with the radio on or off. I almost wonder if it has something to do with the auto volume but it is turned off. I'm hoping it's not being caused by the drivetrain. Also it did not happen every time. Noise would come and go. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions??
Didn't drive the car that long cause the weather was getting bad today. Will listen for it again next time I'm in the car and hopefully describe it better. Car has 200 miles on it and I have had it for a week. Used the A/C also for the first time today. Wonder if that has something to do with it? |

Mine does the same thing... but only when the RPMs are above 2k. Manual 2SS RS. Sounds like its comming from the dash around the glove box area.... Does not always do it, and seems less frequent when the engine is warmed up.... Never does when when I go over bumps or anything like that

Sounds like an exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold. Try to tighten the header bolts.... should be 10mm.

To me the sound was kind've like a whirring noise, as if a fan was out-of ballance or vibrating... The noise wouldn't start until I was over 22ish MPH if I remember correctly. But once it started it wouldn't stop until the car came to a complete stop. It would resume as soon as I began accelerating again. It wouldn't "go away" until the car had been off and at rest for an extended period.

I've got that same exact noise, but it never seems to do it after the car is warmed up and I've been driving for awhile. Just when I first take it out.

Mine was doing the same thing. But now that I have about 2,500 miles on it, I don't hear it any longer.

Sorry it took so long for me to reply. Had some friends help me out and rev the engine while I listened. It is def coming from behind the dash above the glove box. Only up to 600 miles and it's still occuring. It also does do it less often with the engine warm. Took it to the dealer. They agreed it is in the hvac system. Sugguested I get more miles on it before we dig into solving issue. Glad to hear people are experiencubg the same thing and it is going away.
Other than the trunk deciding to only open when it is in a good mood the car has been amazing!

But, if you do decide to attempt it, then loosen the bolt before you bring it back up to the correct torque setting. Not doing so is a big "no-no." I remember reading that one should not re-check torque settings as it could do more harm than good. As I recall, a tightener (i.e., the bolt) has a maximum clamping power at a specified torque setting. Once a tightener is torqued, there will be some "loosening" of the bolt head, not threads, even though the torque level is correct. When you retorque, you are in essence exceeding the recommended torque value. So, if you want to check the torque settings, then loosen all bolts first, then bring them back up to the specific torque level. A properly torqued bolt should not come loose.

Thankfully the noise is quiet enough. After talking to just about everyone I run into about it I'm starting to think that maybe the system is pulling in air where it shouldn't be. If anyone has any suggestions where to look I'm open to ideas. I've been searching but everything is so enclosed in that area I can't easily figure anything out. don't really wanna tear anything apart until I really know this noise isn't going away. |

i have that exact same issue. 250 miles on mine.
it does follow the rpms. thought it was something to do with the clutch but it happens only with the engine rpms. it almost sounds like fluid going through the glove box area. it's weird. I cant figure it out HELP |

Got the same problem. At the dealer right now and they are checking it for the second time.

I have a 2SS RS manual and have never heard any strange noises. Please let us know what you figure out so we can be sure to check on our cars.

I've heard the same noise as well coming from the glovebox/dash area. Just passed 1000 miles and I only hear it in 1st and 2nd gear above 2500 and 3000 rpm's.

I have a manual and I have heard no such sound.. I make it a habit not to use the radio and roll down the windows the majority of the time so I can hear for things like that.. I don't think what you are hearing is normal. You should get it checked..

A/C...at least thats what I think it is on my car. I'm too busy this week and am taking it for a tune next week. So I won't be able to verify until the end of next week.
My sounds like a crackling noise, similar to a bad radio station. It happens with radio on or off but with the A/C off there is no noise at all. It sound like it is coming from the passenger side speaker but I think it is coming from behind the glove box. fyi-I have an A6

IT sounds like it is the heater core because the water from the radiator flows through it, and some of you said it did it less when warmed up. Just my guess.
