Transmission output shaft

Has anyone else snaped thier output shaft off? It happened to me yesterday. I just pulled away from a stop sign in first with about half throttle and bang it broke. Now i'm waiting on parts.

it happened to me Saturday night~ The dealer says that there is a problem with the steel on the output shaft not being properly hardened. GM knows about it and is sending replacements as they break.

Have not heard that one. Anyone know if this is a valid fact, or just a dealer smoothing things over?

havn't heard anything but if it is true it will make me think twice about installing my Torque Converter until its resolved.

This is a manual so if it is an 'issue' maybe it is on the m6 only....?

Nothing from GM yet.

I'm reserving judgement. 2 cars with this problem is too small of a sample to be sure.

But we'll keep our eyes on it. Interesting to see what comes of it.

The output shaft in the trans between driveshaft and the end of the trans.

This steel not harding properly happened to me with my 04 GTO 2 days after I bought it. A fork on the pressure plate bent and that was the excuse for it also.

That sucks dude, I hope they get your car fixed soon.

If it's the 31-spline output shaft in the trans then it's not really the fault of GM but rather of Tremec (who makes the TR-6060)

I have the same trans in my '68 Camaro and the shaft has held up fine.. although it's the aftermerket (T56 Magnum) version.

Hope we don't snap the one on our new 2010 SS..
