Street-Legal NASCAR Cars, Starting at $50K
I may be buying a Camaro AND one of these.
The manufacturer produces running street-legal NASCARs built to customer specifications. Mike Burkhardt of American RaceCars and Furniture confirmed that he picks up old cars from Sprint Cup teams and refurbishes them with all-NASCAR internals, including brand-new 100K-warrantied 358 cubic-inch V8s tuned to Late-Model specifications, which translates to about 600 hp and much greater durability than the hard-running 850+ hp mills used in the Sprint Cup series. The cars can be fitted with either automatic or standard transmissions, and as many distinctly non-racecar-like creature comforts as the customer can stand (such as a stereo system, or doors that actually open). Some companies have them built as "rolling billboards," allowing them to plaster a stock car with their logo without actually having to sponsor a stock car. Others are hobbyists and professionals who run the cars in local racing series. http://blog.cardomain.com/blog/2008/...me-street.html FROM ARC: A.R.C started building street legal nascars in 2005.We put the first number 16 national gaurd Greg Biffle NEXTELCUP car on the road.To see this vehicle go down our city streets and highways"well it was amazing".It was a very big hit for the corperate industry to be able to use these vehicles for rolling billboards. A.R.C built these to be one of the safest vehicle on the streets to day. With the chassie and roll cage design these car are built to wreck at speeds of 200 m.p +. Thay allso have the looks & handeling of the real thing. With all the upgrades thay can allso be verry comfortable. http://www.racecarfurn.com/STREET_LEGAL_NASCARS.html ,

Now if it was an F1 I might be interested. I don't want a car built specifically to make left turns. How would you drive on the street?

50 grand is pretty good for 600 hp, and those cars weigh 3200 lbs without driver or ballast, I think. Not gonna be the most comfortable ride, or the most agile. But I can just see someone spending an afternoon going around the block in one (always turning left!), just to see how it feels. I know I would if I had one. I live on a block that is shaped a lot like the track at Phoenix, only about half the size and flat.
Oh, Mindz: Cup cars can turn right, they race on 2 road courses a year. Lots of the things that are done to help the cars turn left are easily removed such as weight biasing. But since these are built from the ground up, I doubt that its much of an issue. And you can get a street legal F1 car, its called the Enzo . . .

oops. Sorry, it just sounds like the exact same thing some friends of mine say when they aren't joking.

I have had the privilege of driving a nascar. While it of course could turn (either direction) it turned horribly. The company must do something to improve that, because a standard nascar couldn’t even make a 90 degree turn at a stop sign.
Very cool though. |

Its only 50k because it hasnt been refined and has NO luxeries. Without those theres no point of 600hp.

One could argue that without 600hp there is no point in refinements and added luxusuries.
