charging pad replacement pad

does anyone know if a replacement pad can be purchased?

I'm considering taking the Dremel to mine. I'm wanting my Galaxy s7 active to lay flat. It won't take much to shave the pad to make it fit.

but, I'd like to know that I can always purchase another one

Agreed. I have the same problem with my Galaxy S7 Edge. It seems like it would have been nice if the GM engineers had bothered to look at cell phone sizes rather than just putting a pad that looks nice.

Did you try removing the rubber pad insert to see if it will fit without that?

it does fit without the rubber insert, works well. If I shave one one the humps on the end, it will fit with the rubber insert.

That's what you will have to do then. Never heard of anyone offering replacement pads yet.

Pull up the pad and get the plastic code off the back. It's a bit rubbery, so maybe EPDM. Usually the plastic code is in brackets like <<EPDM>>, something like that. I had mine off a few months ago and remember thinking this was going to be a difficult type of plastic to mold or modify. I forgot the exact type. I was thinking heat gun or dremel myself at the time.

I am hoping the Galaxy S8 I just pre ordered fits, my S6 fits perfect even when it is in the leather pouch. We shall see if a few weeks.

I was checking the measurements on that this morning. It's a little bit longer than the S6 but not as wide.

Yeah I saw that...about 5 mm longer. We shall see in a few weeks if it fits, fingers crossed.

I think the issue was they weren't predicting the popularity of having a larger screen phone. I'm sure the pad was designed a few generations behind smartphone trends, which is why we have the issue of phones not fitting. What Chevy should do is sell a pad to accommodate larger screen phones. I'd much rather have the cubby space.

It takes awhile to develop an entirely new car, where a new smartphone is popping up every 6 months to 1 year.

I have to admit the wireless charging pad is the most useless feature of the car. I use apple car play all the time so my phone in plugged in to the USB port and it simultaneously charges. I've had a passenger try to use the pad on their phone but its was too big to fit and didn't work. A cup holder would be more useful instead.

It is made of TPV, thermoplastic vulcanizate. The material is kinda designed to be heat and chemical resistant. I suspect cutting it may give the best result.
It is basically EPDM particles in a PP matrix. Polypropylene is pretty easy to work with and is essentially what is in glue gun sticks. One might be able to modify the tray by cutting it, and then use black or gray glue sticks to fill the gaps or close seams from the back. The PP glue might stick to the TPV when hot. That could give you some options.

I have an S6 in a case which is about 1.5 mm too long for the tray. I am able to wedge it in there flat with slight force.
If the S8 is 5 mm longer than the S6 it is not going to fit in case for sure. It might fit without a case, just barely.
