Modifying the stock airbox.

OK, got a K&N flat filter and I am looking to modify the stock airbox.
1. Has anyone removed the plastic tumor (I seem to recall that it maybe a resonator) from the curved plastic intake tube? I wanna cut this off on principle alone and seal it with plastic and super glue. I wonder if it may increase the intake sound.
2. Anyone drilled holes in the bottom of the stock box or added another duct to fresh air?
3. Any ideas (without mo money) on getting a more direct infusion of fresh air using the stock snorkel? The opening faces the back of the headlight. I am thinking of sleeving a duct over this and routing it to somewhere that will see fresh air.

Thanks

Thanks so removing the resonator gives no real improvement in HP or sound....
Will move on to the other two.

I was thinking about cutting off the square end of the inlet tube and fashioning a test duct using a clothes dryer exhaust duct (to be replaced later with aircraft ducting) but I have other "irons in the fire" at present.

You know the snorkel snaps right out of the air box right?

BTW... the inlet temps are definitely a few degrees warmer without the snorkel... also the inlet temps climb quicker without it when the car is idling... I was surprised by how big a difference the snorkel makes!

Well... it didn't make a difference in sound... but may have made a slight improvement in HP... i got my best 0-60 after removing the resonator.. however the track close for the season (due to a fire) before I got a chance to test it out at the track! ARGH!!!

Yes, I am aware. The Airaid box uses the OEM snorkel. I was considering routing the hose from the cutoff snorkel through the radiator support and out into the clean air behind the grill. After looking at it and deciding it would need a plenum box (to eliminate water intrusion) I decided it would be better to get a Ram hood setup. Not only is it easier to do, it adds to the esthetics of the car.... like most mods, it just takes money!

Thanks, looks like I will try to add a second cold air duct to the lower part of the box AND then maybe cut out the resonator...also to my eye it looks like the flow sensor is a big obstruction to airflow. Any ideas on that one?

I relocated my IAT to the factory snorkel. Need to smooth out the tube part of the intake, and change to a hiflow filter. While I've bought K&N in the past, and never had any issues, I'm wanting to try a dry filter. Time will tell, lol. Going shopping today, might try to find a DIY intake kit.

Especially since the headers are nowhere to be found....oh wait!! They haven't been made it! Whatever. Sheesh.

i'll possibly get looked down at for postin this, but a bunch of my buddies on cars/trucks with panel filters, simply cut out the bottom of the air box, only leaving where the panel filter sits and the places where it bolts uncut, it seemed to make the intake louder, whether there was a performance increase or not idk, but i've seen it done.

Yep, you'll get more sound... but more than likely less performance due to the hotter air...
